Honestly I do love him a lot as well! I think the problem with him largely comes from the book itself being rushed and not written all that well and Aitrus suffers from lack of character development as a result.
Also STRONG headcanon that he's autistic.

Portrait of the Surveyor as a Young Man. I should probably point out that that's not precisely the map from D'ni to the surface. :-P To make it fit in the spaces I had, I just invented a similar-looking map. I figure Aitrus has been on other expeditions too, after all, planning and excavating new caverns and whatnot. And look, look! I dressed him in guild-appropriate blue for once! :-D

This is THE most perfect image of Aitrus and Anna I think Iāve ever seenā¦. and itās a āHappy Annaā to boot! :-)
Finished (and enjoyed) the Book of Tiāana. Ā I was a bit sad that Aitrusās first inclination was to thinkĀ āItās my wifeās faultā. Ā That kind of logic could easily be carried toĀ āitās the Councilās fault for listeningā or all the way back to how each of the whole lot behaved upon first meeting each other. Never ends!
I also felt a certain lack of depth in the side characters. Ā I think those details sometimes got sacrificed for the sake of the narrativeās pacing. Or perhaps the setting eclipsed them - in the same way that the environment in Myst is a character, there was a great deal of description devoted to the architecture and geology of each Age.

Aitrus and Ti'ana. ^_^ This is a really old piece. I never posted it because, while Aitrus managed to come out exactly as I imagine him, this isn't at all how I picture Anna (that's some pretty dark auburn hair, for one thing!). Oh well, I'll try again sometime. I was just hit by a wave of love for these two and had to post something! :-P

These are really old. Ā I drew the first one just after seeing the Star Trek movie, obviously. XD Ā The second one there was a preliminary sketch from when I was planning my "After the Fight" painting. Ā Clearly, I'd got the ages a little wrong in my head so I had to start over. Ā Still, deceptively innocent baby Veovis and righteously seething baby Aitrus are pretty cute, so I thought people might like to see. :-)
