So, I watched the third episode, then I read some posts here on tumblr and I thought a bit about what happened in the episode between Michaela, Connor and Aidan. (I don't want to say that what happened was good or bad, just what I think made the characters react that way because there seem to be a lot of diversity on that topic.) 

My thoughts: Okay, I think that Connor wouldn't have reacted like he did if Aidan hadn't kept there time together from Michaela because when they see each other at first, it's obvious that they parted on good terms. I mean they greet each other like good friends and I think for Connor, at least, is what happened back in school something that is in the past, but nonetheless something that happened. So, when he realizes that Aidan has kept that part from Michaela and also doesn't seem eager to tell her. He only says that they went to the same boarding school and that's it.  I think that something like this is irritating especially for someone like Connor who is so confident about his own sexuality. I mean whatever they had in school still made them good friends or at least didn't end the friendship. I think he is hurt and angry at Aidan for treating him like the 'dirty secret' he just ignores.  I don't want to say that how Connor handles the situation in the episode is a good way of doing so, I just think that it's his way of dealing with it. He is not the kind of guy who stays silent and settles for glaring at people. He likes to provoke others and has no problem with speaking his mind.  In addition to that, the thing with the statue happens and the others 'mocking' him for not being top of the class anymore. (I'm not saying that he doesn't deserve it or anything like that.) There is just a lot of stress always involved for them with that job and everybody deals with that differently. 

It's the same for Michaela who shows to be absolutely sure about her engagement from the beginning when she first 'meets' Wes. Now she is thrown into a situation she didn't see coming in the slightest and I think she just saw her whole world crumbling that moment. She likes to be in control of the things going on in her life and suddenly she is confronted with losing one of the things that she had been sure of the most in the past.  Like Connor she has this stressful job and just can't deal with other things in addition to it. Connor lashes out at her because she is there and Michaela lashes out at Aidan because he caused the whole thing by lying to her.

And another thought on the reason for her anger:  I don't think Michaela is homophobic or anything like that (which would be pretty OOC as well), but I think she is mad at Aidan for possibly being gay because then there's nothing she can do about it. I mean, she does love him (or so I think) and she probably knows that she can outmatch other women if necessary to keep him, but if he'd be gay he's lost to her. I could imagine that this must feel just like an awful combination of anger and desperation.  And her threat is her way of dealing with it.

IN GENERAL: The characters are under a lot of pressure all the time and that kind of pressure can bring out the ugly sides of their personality sometimes and I think that the next twelve episodes are still enough room for character development. 

The show has made it very clear that whatever the characters will learn as it progresses, they will have to learn it the hard way.
