I totally get why yoongi says he’s not handsome and I agree w everything you said. It’s the same with body image. When people say “I’m so fat” or “I hate my body” and then you hear people saying things like “you’re hardly fat, I’d be eating whatever I wanted if I looked like you” or not recognising your struggles with your body is just one more reason to hate something about yourself. Yoongi is very handsome to me but I can totally relate to and understand his thinking in this situation.
yeah, that position of being in your own bubble right there. and those around you are also in theirs and won’t see past their own system. even if they mean well, it ends up more destructive and awkward than intended. it’s ironically better to let the person sort it out without dousing them in your denial or corrections. it’s the clash of two entirely different personal realities that makes encouragements so painful. if you wanna give support you really have to target the other person’s way of reasoning instead of superimposing something that only makes you comfortable.
when yoongi goes for wanting to be handsome, you get a vicious cycle like his extreme weight loss for agust d2 to please fans where he still didn’t look entirely happy with himself. interestingly, i observed that yoongi drops most of his body image concerns when he’s being deliberately cute. you know what i mean, when he says “don’t i look adorable?” 😊
