Hephaestus retellings part 1
Every god falls victim of the "dark and brooding" trope
Hey, at least he's with the woman he loved. If you think that's the minimum, it isn't
"Twelve keys will release Zeus from Icarus and those keys are each a mate to the chosen ones."
"Finding out his mate is a griffin and blind as well does not stop Hephaestus from pursuing the man."
I refuse to read the sample
The other books from this series aren't better
Ok
Looks like his fall from Olympus happened at a older age. Since he's already walking and it's later mentioned to be holding his hammer
Things are a little rushed, but should be expected since this book only has 25 pages
Why Aphrodite would spy against him? In fact why they're still married?
"And he worked—actually toiled!—something alien to the rest of them, even those whose bellicose temperaments had taken them into the very heart of battle over the millennia. The difference was that his work was dirty, and worse, that he actually perspired doing it."
Apollo and Hermes each have like half a dozen domains
Hephaestus created something that will change humanity in secret from Zeus for... curiosity basically
"In all the greek stories Hephaestus never got a happy ending."
HUH?! Did you even read the Odyssey?? It's very clear there Hephaestus got divorced from Aphrodite and in the Iliad it's said he's married to Charis/Aglaia
So here it's a story of forced proximity between Hephaestus and this witch Meroe
Aphrodite: “These are my precious charities! They attend to my every whims and love greeting people!”
Aglaia: “Hello”
Euphrosyne: “OMG HI!!”
Thalia: “I brought cookies.”
Pasithea: *distracted by a bumblebee* “Woah……….”
Aglaia

Aphrodite retelling
I found the synopsis interesting, but then
"I haven't slept with nearly as many men as I've been accused, but I remain Olympus's whore."
"Gaia, the earth goddess, exhausted by her husband lascivious husband, Uranus, begged her son for aid."
"I began my life as a joke between men."
Ok this will be bad
You're telling me Aphrodite, a immortal, couldn't even try to become a scholar, healer or inventor?
You know things are bad when it's impressive to see a retelling mention that the Graces are friends of Aphrodite
"Women make life. Men make war."
"To survive in this world as a woman, you must make yourself amenable to the strongest men."
We won't be breaking new ground with this 🙄
Oh! So the goddesses suffer period pains, great...
I'm starting to get worried on how this writer will treat Nerites
Might sound like a reach, but Aglaia calling Nerites a sardine when he's a ocean deity feels racist
"And Nerites told me how Nereus bartered the pick of his lovely virgin daughters to whichever side prevailed. Zeus's brother Poseidon particularly admired the nymph Amphitrite."
I don't have the will to explain how dumb this is
She's angry at seals having harems 😑
So the curse on Nerites isn't her fault anymore because she was such a good person (don't look the myth of Halia) 🙄
What's the issue with judging a woman for her actions? Honest question
It's another book where Aphrodite is basically isolated on Olympus because all the goddesses hated her for being pretty 🤦♂️
Aglaia: I was wondering about date night tonight. Do you wanna stay in? 'Cause you know what that means. Hephaestus: Romantic dinner and "Mad Men"? Aglaia: Sex on the couch. Hephaestus: Or your thing. Aglaia: Actually, "Mad Men" sounds great. Hephaestus: Or your thing.
A lot of ppl are weirded out by this scene (understandably so but imo we don’t have enough context for what happened between Tenzin and Pema for me to have a strong opinion) but lowkey this makes me thing of Aglaia helplessly watching Hephaestus and Aphrodite getting married and doing nothing at first.
