#age groups

When you say you want to read books like YA, but with protagonists in their 20s, everyone keeps saying New Adult exists, but the thing with that age group/genre in a lot of the writing currently out there now is they tend to lean heavily on the “adult” part, rather than the “new” part, like yes the characters may be 23-24 or whatever, but they already seem to have all their lives figured out, no different than if they were in their 30s or onward, also many of the series on the market are packed with more sexual content, more dark content and other mature subject matter than you’ll find in any YA, as if getting older only means more sex and more cynics, when really all I want is a 20 some year old going on a fantasy adventure with their friends or fighting a mummy monster or climbing up the Eiffel Tower, discovering something that doesn’t exist or giving a monkey a shower they have powers or solving a mystery or figuring things out, still coming of age in a way, but like you know just a slightly older age where they’re not eternally trapped in high school drama.
