AGDQ starting off strong this year
I think a game developer actively attempting to troll their game's speedrunning community could never come up with something as funny as Super Metroid's "save the animals" choice.
A "Good Ending" that amounts to one choice made only after the final boss has been defeated, too small a difference to ever be made into it's own distinct category, but a large enough detour that doing it is a guaranteed time loss, but a small enough detour that a skilled speedrunner will never fail at it and always theoretically has the opportunity to do it at the end of a normal run. With the only acknowledgement within the game being a two pixel sprite flying across the screen for a split second during the standard ending cutscene, but also later entries confirming that two-pixels-flying-across-the-screen ending is unambiguously canon.
It's a perfect storm.
