āā Merde. merde, merde, merde, merde, merde, merde, merde. okay. let's run through this together. let's go through the timeline and understand exactly how he got into his now most unenviable position.
first: the canvas he had occupied for a few weeks now was devoid of all things good and righteous. it was, in the plainest terms, the closest thing to hades that he has ever brushed up against - barring, of course, his first leap into a distorted canvas (a story for never, all things willing). in short, he's had a bad few weeks. animals there hate him. he's pretty sure he's set to be burned at the stake. he might have also committed some kind of religious treason (whoopsies).
second: he's running to avoid those consequences. trickery has only gotten him so far. as fast as he likes to think he is, ink is far from decent compared to a sprinting horse.
third: he's officially overstayed his welcome.
really, all of that could be summarized by the third point. he has overstayed his welcome. he needs to leave.
muscle memory intervenes as he darts between trees. both hands raise, rake their nails down through the air in front of him, and into the void of ink and spite he goes.
now, normally, he prides himself on having good posture when he exits. he may not always land on his feet, but he tries not to land in such a way that startles others; consecutive leaps from canvases draws the ink from his nose, his eyes, his very lungs, and that is far from a pleasant experience. the less startled the people around him are when he arrives, the more likely it is that he'll have time to rest before needing to hop again.
this time, however, he's absent that good posture.
there's a startling CLANG, and the taste of metal. copper? no, not metal at all - eugh, an uncomfortable warmth that rolls across his tongue, and it's only as he peels himself away from the side of the dumpster that the pain of biting into his own tongue hits him. he stands, then doubles over, fanning his face with his now black-stained gloves.
ā putain, ā hisses sisyphus, ā ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, merde, i hate today !! ā
he's been doing this for a while. not landing here specifically, but landing in general. he has a formula. land, check for witnesses, calm them down if they're there, and then leave. or lie to them. or do some warped combination of the two.
in this instance, however, he completely forgets to check to see if anyone's watching. or really to check where he is in general.
the pain from a bitten tongue is, evidently, more than a little distracting.
