"AeschTunes Top 40 Flashback" Announcement
Starting tomorrow, I'm launching a new type of retrospective post for our social media accounts: "AeschTunes Top 40 Flashback."
Each week, on the date of our chart 25 and 20 years ago, I'll share a number one song or a debut for that week.
Today marks the 25th anniversary of the launch of the AeschTunes Top 40 chart. We've been counting down each song from the first chart, starting with #40, and today we unveil the #1 song… "Trip" by The Echoing Green.
"Trip" held the number one spot on the first two AeschTunes Top 40 charts. The song fell off on October 16, 2001 after spending 15 weeks on the chart.
We first heard of The Echoing Green in the mid-90's, when we got a couple of their CDs as a wedding present. We liked what we heard, and after finding the group on the internet, we started following their career.
The Echoing Green had released the Music From the Ocean Picture album in 2001. "Trip" was one of the songs that we enjoyed on it, and we wanted to include it on the AeschTunes Top 40. It's a catchy song with a great lyrical message.
The Echoing Green would go on to have 15 more hits on the AeschTunes Top 40 during its run, with nine of them hitting number one.
We're continuing our countdown of the Top 40 songs that appeared on the first chart of the AeschTunes Top 40 (July 3, 2001). Today is song #2: "Harder Better Faster Stronger" by Daft Punk.
"Harder Better Faster Stronger" debuted at its number two peak and spent one week there. The song fell off on September 4, 2001 after spending nine weeks on the chart.
This is a song we were hearing a lot on KNHC 89.5 FM in Seattle. We liked this track a lot, and we wanted to include it on the chart. Unfortunately, the song was already peaking, so that's why it didn't last long. I like to think that if the AeschTunes Top 40 had started earlier, that "Harder Better Faster Stronger" would have been a number one song on our chart.
Daft Punk would go on to have one more hit on the AeschTunes Top 40 in 2001.
