carlocht i always imagined was made in a lab, like mewtwo. thats why they have blood powers. they were probably in a group of artificial humans, and the others were. well. imperfect prototypes. once they saw what had happened to their friends, carlocht turned their rage on the alchemists who created them, making their blood boil and shoot out from them until every last one was dead. after that, they were homeless - scrounging from town to town, driven out of each one for the dark magic that clung to them, until the rejection and the trauma and the cold, hungry nights finally drove them insane and they swore revenge. they want to destroy every happy moment that a human could enjoy, because they'll never be happy again thanks to humans. carlocht screams and cackles during every battle because all they want is to see you suffer. they're hurt, and they want you to hurt too.
bellen, on the other hand, came from a little town that was completely besieged by war. they saw way too many terrible things for such a promising young mind - too much human cruelty to comprehend. they originally wanted to help - to make sure the agony they suffered would never affect anyone again - and reached some small position within governance. they realized quickly, however, that their home was targeted by their own nation's soldiers. mismanagement, incompetence, foolishness - they'd run out of food and, mistaking bellen's village for one within the enemy's borders, burnt it to the ground. how can a person deal with that? how could anyone deal with that? that's why bellen has a plan, and they will wrench this horrible country from the hands of those who destroyed their family, and they will create a well-oiled machine. everyone will be provided for, everyone will be accounted for, everyone will be accountable. why is personal freedom a concern? there's no room for something so idealistic... bellen is cold, calculating, and slippery. it's hard to get a direct hit on them. they really don't care about your pathetic heroics or ideals - they're busy.
