So as some of you may have read in previous posts, this last vacation was all about facing fears and anxiety. When up in Sunriver (if you follow my stories you saw), I went Kayaking. If you live with anxiety, some of you know that a lot of things can be terrifying and extremely exciting all at once. This was like that for me. Before my accident and my POTS, something like this wouldn't have scared me, I would've just gone for it! Now my brain overthinks it all, even though I love being outdoors and going on adventures! We got in a small area off the river to learn how to balance and use them first. I thought for sure I would flip as soon as I got in, but I didn't. It wasnt too bad, I was learning to turn, and not run into things pretty quickly! Then our friend asked if we wanted to go out on the river. That was a loaded question. Did I want to? Yes! Of course I did! Was my fear trying to stop me? Yes! I sat there kind of unable to answer as all the scenerios went through my head of what could happen. Then I realized, I said I wasn't going to be this way in this vacation! I was going to do the thing I wanted to do. I don't want to let anxiety stop me, and the best way to stop that is just to tell those voices they don't have control and do it! So we did! You know what? I was fine and IT WAS SO MUCH FUN! I'm so glad and thankful I had that experience!
