im halfway thru a gd rn but do u have any portfolio advice?
oh yes!!!!!!!
keep it simple & true to you!!! i think a lot of designers see so many influences when creating logos/brands for themselves & others that you get lost in it all and lose what makes your designs reflective of your style. focusing on key elements that you love to work with helps when creating new projects and keeps your work looking consistent and put together.
and with that, you dont need every project in your portfolio!!! put your best 5 or 6 in! if you dont have many you’re proud of, 3 strong ones is best. you don’t have hours to discuss your work at interviews & portfolio reviews so its much stronger to show a few projects you are passionate about rather than spend a few seconds on a bunch when sharing them.
i’m trying to think generally, but i know in my case if you have physical posters/publications/collateral to show, that is a BIG WIN. People were honestly surprised print and physical pieces were still being made to show craftsmanship and finesse. On that note too, designing a physical portfolio is a plus, but creating a digital space is easier to tote around.
i write all this and then im like, people probably have a million interpretations of a portfolio, but my school focused on presentation of a physical book and work to interviews and such EEEeeee
