@addyeb_art š āThe palette and movement are inspired by the landscape of the Southwest that raised me: reddish brown clay and white sands, dusty desert terrain, the mountains of Santa Feā¦expansive sky with shades of pinks, oranges & purples dancing in the early morning and eveningsā¦the indigo night sky that felt like I was standing in the middle of the universe surrounded by an infinite number of starsā¦painted hues of copper, gold, umber & ochreā¦its peaks, mesas, valleys and dunesā¦the caverns, canyons, ridges, and sedimentary rock sculpted by time, gravity, erosion, and water millions of years ago. My mother & father have roots here in Philly; my paternal grandmother was a congregant in the church my maternal great aunt pastored. However it was their joining the Air Force that took them to Texas, where they met. I was born in San Antonio in December of 1982. Just a few years later, they divorced and my mother-newly separated from the Air Force-and I returned to her childhood home on Taney Street in North Philadelphia. I was only around two years old or so at the time, so old Kodak photos of living in that house with my mother, aunt, and cousin fill in the gaps about it my own memory cannot. For reasons I wonāt get into right now (thatās a story for another time), I wound up living with my father back in San Antonio a short time later. Then he was stationed in Alaska, New Mexico, and then back to Texas. Growing up with my father, I spent hours in our van as a child taking trips to various towns and cities in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, & Colorado, once we left Alaska. Iād stare out the window in awe, my imagination creating its own visual stories with the vibrancy of the shifting landscape as the backdrop.ā I wrote some words about the feelings behind my latest (and largest!) painting for @streetsdeptwalls over on @medium. Linkās in my bio if youād like to read more about it š. Honored to be included in this project, and canāt wait to celebrate with the other 10 Philly artists involved. Come see the new murals and meet up with us this Friday at @fashiondistrictphl from 6pm-8pm š„³šØš¬šš¼ #supportblackart #adrianenieves #phillyart #abstractart https://www.instagram.com/p/B2h_xR_B0bO/?igshid=mcuvcew45s1v
