“How long?”

The sound of Matthew’s voice, filled the room. Gracing your ears. You looked over in his direction. Your gaze meeting with his, as he leaned against one of the rusty file cabinets. A shaky breath escaped your lips, as you rested both of your hands in your lap. The question, was simple. How long?

How long what, had he been asking? Well, how long your urges to fed had been going on.

The urges? They had come on all of sudden, and you didn’t know why. “I’ve…felt the urge to feed for a few days.”

“A few days?” Matthew’s expression fell.

“Yes.” You nodded your head. You could tell, this did not please him. Perhaps, it was because you foolishly had chosen to keep this from him for so long.

“Y/N.” Matthew took a step forward, his gaze hardening. “You’ve been having uncontrollable cravings for blood this whole time? Need I remind you, who you and I have been around lately?”

“Diana…” You breathed.

“Yes, Diana.” He took another step. “Who also happens to have the blood of a witch flowing through her veins.”

“I’m sorry. I should have told you sooner.” You felt the tears began to well.

“Yes. You should have.”

“I just…” You let out another breath. As you tried to gather your words. “Matthew. I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I haven’t felt like this in centuries. Not ever since you first turned me. Something’s wrong. Really wrong. I think… I think someone did something to me.”

Matthew could only soften his expression. He knew you were right. This uncontrollable thirst, was unlike you.

He kneeled in front of you.

“Listen to me.” He outstretched his hand, placing it on your knee.

“Matthew-“

“Listen to me, Y/N.” He never left your gaze. “Whatever this is, we will get through it. Do you understand me? I’m not just your sire. I’m your friend. Your family. And family? They don’t leave each other behind. I just need to try and remain calm for me. Okay?”

also i’m only a couple chapters into book three but i already love it. i’ve heard mixed reviews about the last book but the amount of characters deborah harkness commands in this book is exciting. it’s a more refined version of what i do with my writing and i LOVE it. again, only a couple chapters into it. i might change my tune (i enjoyed the first half of mockingjay and then it fell off a cliff so...we shall see).
