#adonis cnut

I mean first there’s the obvious, Cnut sounds like cunt, and if you just say the initial it’s A. Cnut, you get it, we all get it, it’s hilarious. Same type of joke as Alan B’stard.

But also Adonis is a word which means an extremely attractive man, I believe it originates from the story of Aphrodite loving a beautiful man named, you guessed it, Adonis.

And Cnut? Well did you know that from 1016-1035 the king of England was a certain King Cnut? This King Cnut was also king of Denmark as well as king of Norway. This man is, as Rik mentioned in an interview, Adonis’s ancestor.

It’s just so perfect. Both names encompass his character fully. I mean just think of it from his perspective.

Great lineage that can be traced for likely over a thousand years, of royal blood, a first name that fits him by both describing him physically (as I’m sure he sees it) and having a old fashioned and proper feel and origin, and yet his great last name’s meaning has changed over the years and now it seems that when coupled with his quite suitable and perfect first name’s initial it makes for a rather awful insult. And while he’s not up on many modern things even he knows that.

It’s written by the writers of The New Statesman and it, of course, stars Rik.

To me it feels like it is to The New Statesman what Filthy Rich and Catflap is to The Young Ones and Bottom. In the sense that it’s only six episodes, far less well known, and yet rather similar to its more popular counterpart and pretty darn good.

Rik’s character Adonis Cnut reminds me of a lot of Rik’s characters put together lol, sometimes he reminds me of Richie sometimes of Alan, but well mostly he’s his own thing.

I mean this isn’t a niche thing, it’s not like I’m saying you’ve got to watch this random film that he has a non speaking cameo in, it’s a comedy series that he stars in!
