My name is Mohammed, a father of five children, living in Gaza. Poverty was nothing new to us, but what we are experiencing today surpasses everything we have ever experienced before.

My home, before it was turned into a pile of rubble, was a warm shelter for my children's laughter. They filled every corner with joy, despite everything. But the last war robbed us of even our safety.

One night, as we gathered around a candle, we heard the sound of airplanes, then a nearby explosion. We had no shelter, so I hugged them tightly, as if I could protect their souls with my body.

In the morning, we were among the lucky ones... we survived, but our home did not. Since then, we have lived in a small tent, without clean water, not enough food, and medicine has become a distant dream.

My children ask me when we will return home... I don't have an answer, but I smile and say, "Soon, God willing."

I am Mohammed, and every day I try to be a homeland for them, when everything has failed us.
