Offtopic: about Gorthol
I wonder if isnât it closer to what the dragon-helm of Dor-lĂłmin was supposed to look like?Â
Iâve seen some nice arts by Alan Lee (and others of similar style), however, are they really that close to a description of dwarf-helmet which were noted for their grim masks? (where does such idea of depiction of this helmet come from?)
Given Tolkienâs interests, I guess itâs somewhat likely that the inspiration for the dragon-helm were some Vendel-age âcrested helmetsâ (featuring âdragon-crestsâ as well as fitting the description of dwarvishâmaskedâ helmets)
Though of course Khuzdul has a lot in common with real-life Semitic languages (which however doesnât really fit the âEddicâ names of some dwarves)
In the time that followed TĂșrin grew high in favour with Orodreth, and well-nigh all hearts were turned to him in Nargothrond. For he was young, and only now reached his full manhood; and he was in truth the son of Morwen Eledhwen to look upon: dark-haired and pale-skinned, with grey eyes, and his face more beautiful than any other among mortal Men, in the Elder Days. His speech and bearing were that of the ancient kingdom of Doriath, and even among the Elves he might be taken for one from the great houses of the Noldor; therefore many called him Adanedhel, the Elf-Man. ~ The Silmarillion, Chapter 21 (Turin Son of Hurin by BenNewton, deviantART)
