Hey, I just posted about it a bit here and here, but I think it's a fair contract when you take Bedard's circumstances into consideration.
I think the player it potentially affects the most is Fantilli. Hard to justify paying him more than Bedard when his stats are worse. I guess it'll depend on how aggressive his agent is, how motivated he is to stay in Columbus & how motivated they are to keep him. But I can see him getting maybe $13/14m now for around the same 5-year term.
More than anything else, this solidified my opinion on how Mack will approach this contract extension. Grier said Mack is worth more than Bedard, so San Jose WILL pay him more than $15m. And Mack could theoretically take $22m, but he won't. He'll take $16-18m, and I still think the term will be about 5 years.
The rest of the young guys will fall into step behind Mack, getting a fair paycheck without asking for the moon. I always assumed the signings would go Bedard>Mack>Will>Graf, so let's see if that prediction holds...
