all im hoping for when the octet film comes out is that people get to recognize how much love the original cast members gave to this musical. the original eight (and all the additions in the west coast) have such amazing and intentional performancesβ they gave these characters literal Meaning. and not only that, they are the sweetest human beings alive :( when i made my first octet pieces, adam and justin bought it off my redbubble.
adam and justin have already expressed sadness over the news of the new cast. they recognize the new cast is brilliant, but it is upsetting to hear that they don't feel recognized for their efforts, with justin expressing no communication from the filmmakers that none of the original cast would be the film cast. their posts have also been liked by other original cast members like kuhoo, margo, and isabel (also mia!).
as much as the new cast is impressive, it does frustrate me that many smaller actors were dismissed when many of malloy's work is BUILT on propping up smaller actors. at the very least, please go show some love to the original cast :( it breaks my heart to see them get dismissed by many after the new cast was announced.
