Life as an Accidental Activists ... lessons learned ......
SO WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED IN 6 YEARS ... PACE YOURSELF ... Its going to be a long battle ... I onced asked David Daniels how he fought so long ... Its an exhausting fight (double it if you are dealing with health issues from a spill ) If you don't take care of you ... who is going to fight ??? Activists like to use the phrase self care ... for me its been a hard issue ... when you know the devastation that a spill brings .. you want to make sure that no one else goes through it ... This past fall I had a friend who is involved in the battle against the Pilgrim Pipeline message me saying I needed to go and talk in North Dakota... she and another friend here from MI had gone out and spent a couple of weeks... I had another friend from NY who said she would swing by and we could go together and I was trying to figure out how this would work out .... Another one from PA.... I have quite a few friends who have gone out ... some staying for a few days... others for months... In fact I have friends returning to MI this week.. welcome back and thank you for your dedication and service. I had to realize that it simply was not going to be possible ... the way the doctor appointments were set up was not going to allow it..... So a local NO DAPL #NODAPL group popped up... flyers were made and hung ... meeting were held.... people took supplies out ... phone calls and letters went out ... new FB pages were made ... people connections were made .. new friends were made... all local. Pretty cool in a town ran by an energy company... So I took some time to heal from the surgeries and 41 stiches in my head ... and still dealing with some headaches ... but I have learned to take care of me... naps are a good thing. Now I am starting to feel better and making plans for this upcoming year and the battles that we face... So take some time to take care of you... my fellow activists ... the battles are not going to be going away ... we need you ... Much Love ... Do it with Love
