Action Jackson, Mego's 8-inch answer to Hasbro's popular G.I. Joe action figure.
There were three versions of Jackson: clean-shaven (see below), bearded (see above), and Black. The Black figure was only available in a clean-shaven version. The hair color also varied greatly, from black to blondish to red.
I dunno about you, but I always suspected that AJ's head sculpt was based on Mego president Marty Abrams.

Action Jackson debuted in 1971, the same year Mego president Marty Abrams took over the company founded by his parents.
The figure used the same body, but different head sculpts to create variety. Like G.I. Joe before him, AJ had a multitude of outfits to choose from depending on the adventure you wanted him to have. These ranged from the standard military, police and fire/rescue outfits, to sports outfits for baseball, tennis, golf and rugby.
He was also marketed with a number of vehicles, accessories and playsets to fuel hours of imaginative playtime.
In 1972 Mego secured the rights to the DC and Marvel superheroes for the World's Greatest Super-Heroes line. Action Jackson bodies were originally used as the base for the superhero figures.
However, despite an aggressive marketing campaign, AJ's popularity quickly waned. The figure line was cancelled in 1974, replaced by more lucrative lines like WGSH, Star Trek, and Planet of the Apes.
