merry cricketmas and a phemie new year
ugh, I am binge watching the entire Clone war series, and i almost stopped at those episodes. It felt hamfisted and I was super confused at their existence and their weird planet. i don't know much about starwars in general, but even that felt weirdly out of place. also, the father and children were just... badly written.
It felt badly written and weirdly out of place because it was too literal.
They made up some living cliches to “embody the Force”, while missing the fact that the Force works best when it’s a mysterious, multifaceted, ambiguous thing. I love mystical bullshit, but it needs to be actually mystical and weird! that planet should have been 1000x times trippier than it was, the the characters a lot more weird and off-beat. The hamfisted good/evil division really shot this episode in the knee, and I would have preferred if there was some ambiguity at least.
I was also underwhelmed by the Yoda episodes where he goes on his vision quest, because that one was also hyper-literal. Like, Yoda literally kills a physical embodiment of his own evil?? Like?? No.
It’s the midichlorians all over again: turning the Force into something physical and mundane when it should be something mysterious, multifaceted, ambiguous, open to interpretation and hard to understand. I’ve always loved the concept of “there is no Lightside or Darkside, there is only one Force”, because that means the Force itself is an amoral, impersonal thing, and any moral aspects it has are only those projected upon it by the people who wield it. That is how I like my Force. Not thisssss bullshit.
BT!scientists, how is the whole, feeding the alien Mech going?
BT!Dr King: Glucose and water solutions. Pretty much glucose and water. It’s starving slowy, oh my god, but introducing the wrong nutrients would be worse than starving it with how weakened it is, it might finish it off -- argh!
me and my wife are now even more gay thanks to the power of pricefield

80′s paperback sci-fi novels are the hight of art and literature.
tagged by johnflansburgh for the Top Ten Movies meme. As you can see mine is an eclectic mix of blatant nostalgia.
I tag acricket, tacitpact and danithedoommagnet Only if they’d like to, of course, as well as anyone else who’s inclined.
