Acidum's old look vs. her new look! I think it gets the point across much better.
Little Acid snuggling with baby Plushia?

I got you
Acid being highly protective over their little brothers? (Q and Plushia)
Anon because I'm terrified of your followers atp
-hides the freaks under my rug- theyre ok
Acidum.
Body partially fused with a being beyond her comprehension, Acidum was little more than an unlucky victim. Any Imperial could have faced the same night terrors, the same convulsions, and just as easily been approached by the very same research team which learned of her affliction. Which wanted to help, before it escalated, before the prospect of the Imperial's death would endanger everyone with the power a corpse like that would contain.
But, maybe, not any Imperial would have survived. Waking up in an abandoned observatory, body warped and monstrous in a way that, even with her memories torn from her mind, she knew was wrong. Maybe another Imperial wouldn't have been so accepting of the company- the Fae with the kind, starry eyes and determined brow. Fearful at first, unsure for the same amnesia-induced reasons. Another Imperial might have thought it silly or disrespectful to rename themselves with the words around them, to become Acidum and Aberration whenever they spoke, a sort of code between them. Even as memories returned, as their former names, professions, lives drifted back into their minds, still-present gaps notwithstanding, but they found more comfort in the names they'd heard spoken, whispered, time and time again, in total confidence and with total love.
And another Imperial couldn't have fallen in love with Aberration, Acidum knows that. Not because of how obstinate they are- though that may be a factor- but because, knowing them now, Acidum couldn't bear to see it. At some point, luck seems to favor circumstance. And luck, or circumstance, or fate, brought them together.
But the danger still looms. Death and a fate worse are one in the same for Imperials, and it’s only a miracle that neither have become of Acidum. Aberration may work tirelessly to reverse it, halt it, anything, but it's torture to see the Fae regularly work themself to tears in pursuit of a safe world, and a safe life.
It's a shame that fate is always cruelest to the kindest of lovers.

ok so here's my thesis
Acidum.
Wrought with night terrors and convulsions for weeks on end before being approached by part of a research team in Starfall Isles, the Imperial gladly agreed (on however little or much faith she had in the group), to join them to stop the occurrences. But she'd lived in the Isles since her adolescence- if the researchers weren't to be trusted, then they wouldn't have been approaching her in the first place.
Though she's become accustomed to her new life, she once debated whether she should have accepted their help, or just... Waited. Though she can't imagine it having gone any better.
She stays in the abandoned observatory now, with the only remaining researcher: renamed Aberration, just as she was renamed Acidum, when they first found their memories torn asunder. Almost felt themselves reborn, though with none of a newborn's blissful ignorance. They remember their names from before, of course, but they've become too accustomed to these names now. These names are the only ones they can remember speaking with love, in confidence, to only each other.
Perhaps they could leave one day, but not until Acidum's flesh stops wandering in her sleep. Not until that gutteral singing stops echoing in her bones as they spread across her scales, or until her once mild opal illness and its pain returns from its soft, quivering, cold and sizzling and euphoric state. When she doesn't have to wake up each morning in fear.
And that hope is something that's stopped her debates, just as well as Aberration has. It could be worse. Death and a fate worse are one in the same for Imperials, and it's only a miracle that neither have become of Acidum.
Thank the gods I'm alive, she thinks. Thank the gods it can't hurt anyone else.
