the supreme leader is not a creature of habit, yet this ritual they indulge in has become an expectation: upon return from his endless voyages across the cosmos, he gives @acharnemcnt notice. sometimes, he endures reproach which he seldom heeds. sometimes, it's the angry silence he's faced with. regardless of the outcome, ren always leaves trinkets unto the chancellor's desk, be they silks, jewels, or whatever strikes his fancy. not gifts, but tokens. it goes unspoken between them. ❝ they can be vicious little things, chatterplants. this one specifically tried to bite me. twice. ❞ he drawls casually, motioning to the potted carnivorous plant which had torn his glove during his brief visit to arbiflux. he hadn't stamped it out for the simple reason that it had been incessantly noisy and violent in its attempts to defend itself, which he found endearing, and after weeks away from the palace, the striking blood-orange shade of its petals had caught him with its familiarity, reminding him of hux. ❝ very demanding in its care requirements... i thought you might bond with it. ❞ it's a jest, mostly.

the snake &. the maiden — pulchritudinous graceful passenger with elegant clothes &. unknown motives. his regal allure’s easy to beguile spectators, it was a honor to escort him &. maybe he’ll be available for interesting exchanges before coming back to political operations.

cal lowers the rocks to the ground, not quickly or suddenly, but slowly enough for the boy to notice how they fall after being lifted into the air utilizing the force. to the jedi master, the trick is simple & brings results much faster than other force abilities, but more importantly, it keeps his skills sharp. but the boy questions if he can do it again & for a moment there is silence.

a hand strokes his beard, brushing through the ever-prominent white hairs. “ what if instead of rocks … what would you say if i offered you the chance to float? ” he can be gentle. unlike in his youth, cal has mastered the art of being gentle, especially when it comes to force-related abilities & younglings.

looking down at the boy, he offers him a modest grin. “ i would never offer something if i knew there was any risk of injury or potential harm. ”

a small group of children were practicing unjamming their blaster, the point in being quicker each time. fn-2187 felt his face hot while small hands quickened to do the task, shoulders tense. button was released and he did something--because suddenly a metal part of the gun flew at his forehead at such high speed-- " AGH ! " the child cried out, covering his forehead with his palms immediately while pain seared through it.

but the outburst... fn 2187's airway felt smaller and smaller while anxiety cloaked him, keeping his head down against the table while he nursed his throbbing wound, afraid to look up. he messed up big time. broke his blaster and spoke out of turn.

SEND AN ASSUMPTION/MISCONCEPTION ABOUT AHSOKA

ahsoka was an unknowing step down on an already very unsteady ladder.

no doubt she weakened anakin's resolve to stay in the order, but he was already inching toward that path to the dark side with or without her. did it perhaps speed up the process? 100%. in much the same fashion as anakin's nightmares concerning padmé's death as padmé came closer and closer to her due date.

but would we really say padmé is at fault for pushing anakin toward the dark side? no, i don't believe so. by definition, ahsoka's departure and the nightmares about padmé, plus her increasingly nervous behaviour around him as he spiraled, were catalysts to anakin's eventual fall, but not causes. i say this especially because ahsoka and padmé loved anakin very much and cared for his well being deeply, but they had a whirlpool of their own terrible circumstances to work through, too.

conversely, i think padmé's and ahsoka's presence in anakin's life may have made it easier to cling to the light while they were around him. as soon as they began to feel distant, the fear rushed in.

in particular though, ahsoka's departure from the order was never because of anakin. it was in spite of him. even though he may have done all he could to ensure her exoneration, the rest of the jedi council thoroughly mucked up the process. their mistakes were never his fault, nor would ahsoka ever dream of insinuating such a thing. but anakin may also have feared he didn't do enough to renew her faith in the jedi, yet he was the only one who did enough. that's something i believe ahsoka tried to tell him in her own way before she left. once she was gone, though, every dangerous worry in anakin's head could run free.

so, to me, while she was a contribution, she isn't a cause. she isn't to blame. anakin's choices were always his own, even under the heavy and damning influence of palpatine.
