Ace of Wands
Another tarot card from May 2019. This piece is from E.T.A. Hoffmann's The Golden Pot, which is a very interesting story (anyone who knows Hoffmann knows he is...interesting) about a young man choosing between a life of magic and purpose or his boring 9 to 5. Eventually he follows the magic, despite its dangers, because it is so much more fulfilling than the latter.
Painted here is the moment our protagonist Anselmus encounters Serpentina, one of three daughters of a wizard, and with whom he falls in love. She represents the call to destiny, that magical life he desires and fears. Ultimately this card begs you to follow your passions, for they shall be far more satisfying in the end than safety.

You've got me thinking about the Russos filmmaking now lol - so much so that when I just saw another ad for Disney+ feat. a still of that shot from AoU where all the Avengers are leaping in to battle in the snow, and all I could think was, oh damn, did IW or Endgame have ANY of those iconic group shots that Avengers and AoU had??? Cause I can't think of a single one! Like ffs I'd happily put Whedon in the trash and now I'm back to respecting him for at least being able to do that much :'D

It’s a curse, once the bad has been seen, it cannot be unseen.
I would’t go so far as to say I respect Whedon, more like begrudgingly admit that he can meet the bare minimum of expectations when it comes to blockbuster films, which is “Welp, at least he can shoot it right” xD
But in all seriousness, yes. Putting aside Whedon’s obsessions with women and the various issues that arise from his scripts now that it’s not the 90s anymore (not to mention the allegations of plagiarism), at least he is an experienced director. He actually had a plan for the films, both in terms of stories and in terms of visuals. He wanted to adapt elements of the comics, like the campiness of the entire concept and that was visible in his films, and quite delightful too.
I’ll always remember that moment in the Avengers when Cap was trying to give orders to the police in that ridiculous costume.

Whedon didn’t allow the films to take themselves too seriously. Because they couldn’t, they’re superhero films, not fucking war dramas. Somewhere after Captain America: Winter Soldier and AoU Marvel lost the ball with the tone of their films, and never recovered.
Also, he gifted us with these two shots that not only render Endgame unnecessary (for me, a Nat fan, at least), but also bring me to the uncomfortable position where I have to admit that AoU, a film I hate, is no longer the worst MCU film.
Age of Ultron, gave us a Natasha who heroically offered her very highly trained but mortal self to save a city and right the wrongs of her teammates. Again. But it didn’t kill her, because that’s not necessary to the story. The will to fight and to die for a good cause was enough, and it’s a superhero film.
I’d also like to point out that in the days of Whedon, Marvel hadn’t gone nuts about spoilers yet. We knew lots of shit about the films and that’s because they trusted the scripts. Once the Russos came in, and along came crappy storytelling, it was all about keeping secrets and not telling the actors wtf is going on in the films. And that’s a whole other can of worms that I’m not going to touch at the moment xD
