The young clerk and I had a good laugh about it. He agreed it was ridiculous. But his hands were tied; he could only do what the computer allowed him to do.
So, we joined forces in a quick search of the merchandise in the immediate vicinity of the cash register, looking for the cheapest thing that would push me over the top.
He spotted the pops: 39 cents each. Transaction completed: $19.99, plus .39, minus $5.

Grease takes belle and kit to one of the greatest places a mechanic/craftsman can go: Home Depot.
