Today is my 2 year diaversary! 😊 Two years ago I was sitting in my doctor's waiting room, about to have the worst day of my life. We waited three hours in the waiting room while I was stressed out of my mind. The receptionist announced to the whole waiting room that I had sugar in my urine and that must mean that I was diabetic. In front of 9 other strangers. Then I sat there for another hour thinking about how my life was basically over. Then the doctor told me I had PCOS, diabetes and that I would never have kids. I think I cried for two days. My fasting blood sugar was sitting around 11.8 and spiking to 16 - 18. Two years ago I actually thought that death was preferable to having to deal with my health. It was terrifying. I wish I could go back and tell her that it'll be ok. Two years from now your doctor will call you her "poster child for diabetes management". Two years from now you will be able to spend hours on your feet doing whatever you set your mind to. Two years from now you will have a fasting sugar of 4.8 (86). Your blood sugar won't spike to more than 6.3 and when it does go that high you won't be hiding in your car wishing for death because life is just too hard. Two years from now you will be doing what you love every day and you won't be completely paralyzed in doubt (only a little bit 😋). Two years from now you will want to hug that girl and apologize for being so damn hard on yourself. Two years from now you will be working towards getting your life back and it will be amazing. I am so grateful for my diagnosis. My diabetes was a tool that I used to claw my way out of that hole. I've chosen not to let this ruin me. I accepted that I was diabetic and then used that to drive me. It's not as scary as you think it is.
