Hello Sir! How are you doing? Got any good Tony and Pepper stories from the tower?
Oh, they’re good kids. Set for life but do they sit on their butts and do nothing? No! They do the opposite of nothing!
Mr. Stark now, he likes his coffee very specific, and Pepperino doesn’t care as much but she knows it’s a waste of energy to try and stop him on a roll, which is how we once ended up with Mr. Stark working the Starbucks in the Tower all day long.
See, he wanted his espresso done a certain way and he wasn’t gonna take no for an answer, and he owns the building, right? So he tells the barista -- I was managin’ the cash register and I wasn’t gonna stop him -- he tells the barista, move over, you sit down, let me handle this. And she does, while Miss Pepper’s just standing there watching like she has to do this three, four times a day and is past embarrassment.
So he pulls himself an espresso and while I wasn’t gonna stop him I also wasn’t gonna let him give my barista any crap, so as soon as he pulled his, I passed him a cup I’d just rung up for someone, and said “Make yourself useful, sonny.”
The thing about Tony Stark is if you give him an order like you expect him to follow it he’ll tell you to go to hell but if you do it like you think he’s incompetent, he will follow orders all day long. So he made a latte and then a frapp and then another latte, and by then Madam Pepper had settled in with her laptop to work and he was merrily rolling right along, having the time of his life.
He worked a ten-hour shift even though I made him take the mandated lunch break. I think it was the happiest he’d been in a week. There’s a fella who loves him an assembly line, not to mention a coffee machine. Also he autographed a bunch of cups for folks and we gave him an apron.
Then he found out what the baristas were makin’, bought the Starbucks, renamed it Starkspresso’s, and doubled everyone’s salary. I hadda quit ‘cause I don’t like the responsibility of earnin’ too much from any one job! But all our baristas are baristing their way through college so that’s fine.
That nice Barton boy went through the line eight times just to make Stark pull his coffee, and every single time Stark called his name wrong.
What is your favorite book that you've read lately, or that you wish you had time to read?
The last book I read was “Doctor Who: Price of Paradise” which was… Okay I’ll be honest, it’s basically fanfiction that got greenlit for publishing.It was good, though if it were on AO3, I’d probably overlook it in favor of something checks off more of my fandom boxes. Like Rose and Ten kissing.There wasn’t any of that. But for officially licensed (fan)fiction, it was a good read.
