I have never been far away from my family and friends and especially not for a such a long time. I could have went to Great Britain, since it is very close, but as usually I wanted more. So here I was, after 16 months of planning and wondering, finally on my way to a place I have never been, a work place I was not familiar with, an apartment and roommates I have never seen.
I always thought I would feel anxious and nervous when the day arrived, but the complete opposite was the case. And even after my family had left me alone at the airport, I felt peaceful. Not even the 22 hours of travelling and being alone with my own thoughts changed that feeling. I was excited to see more of the world.
Turned out my roommates were two girls from Germany, which made it way easier to feel home. The jet-lag was not as bad either and since work did not start for another week, I had plenty of time to get used to the nine-hour time difference. During the first week I had to start from the scratch, therefore I was going to different stores a lot, buying everything I needed. I also explored the city a little bit, but was not really able to do touristy things. It was feeling like a dream and I enjoyed every second of it.
And then the first work day came and I started to become nervous. I have never really worked full-time. Sure, I did some internships, but it was always something in my comfort zone and just for a short period. This was something big. Six months. Tourism. English.
To be honest, the first two works were pretty tiring. It was so much input in such a short period of time. I did not get the chance to breathe. The third week was the scariest week though. It was the week I was officially on my own. The intern who taught me everything was leaving and everything she did was going to be my job. It was challenging, but still so much fun. I met a lot of great people. Some of them I would already call friends!
I was lucky enough to get an intern spot in a great company with awesome people. The apartment I live in feels like home and my roommates are nice. And the most important thing is that Vancouver is everything I have wished for and more.
So this just happened. Had my breakfast, and one from the „oh we are so friendly and hip and cool“ staff here mourned about how we German girls apparently did the thing. So sad to have hurt you. Well, screw you and your fragile masculinity. Watch any movie and you see how the male gaze undresses countless women.
I am in a really nice place, but the façade of those „nice and cool“ dreadlock people who are too cool is surely breaking. Also: #gilette.
And guess what: we were just happy to speak to another german person. No intention involved.
Writing this while reggae music is playing in this resort called „Good Time Koh Phangan“. Well, fragile masculinity everywhere. Beware. They are so easily disturbed.

Suan Pakkad Palace or Suan Pakkard Palace (Thai: สวนผักกาด; RTGS: Suan Phak Kat) is a museum in Bangkok, Thailand. It is located on Sri Ayutthaya Road, south of the Victory Monument. The museum has Thai antiques on display, including Ban Chiang pottery over 4,000 years old. Originally the home of Prince Chumbhotbongs Paribatra and his wife, they converted it into a museum which opened in 1952. The museum features a group of four traditional Thai houses with covered hallways between them. There is also artwork on display in its Marsi Gallery. #uponreflection1 #palace #thailandonly #travel #explore #abroadlife #travelforlife #travelbug #lifechanging #gothere #freedom #escape #health #happiness #fitness #wellbeing #wellness
Hej everyone! (❛▿❛✿) Sorry for the lack of posts lately... I feel really bad for letting my blog down like this for such a long time... But I had some really busy weeks between work, expat paperwork (ID card, bank accounts...) and finally some time to enjoy doing (almost) nothing on weekends.
But now I’m back! And today I’d like to show you the Swedish Midsummer I finally got to see and participate to!
Midsommar is a very big celebration here in Sweden. Family and friends gather in a cosy place and celebrate the holiday with music, flower crowns, (really really REALLY) good food and very nice stuff to drink! This year, it happened on June 24th and it lasted all weekend. No work on Friday 23th and almost every little shop is closed in town for the weekend. (Except for supermarkets, of course!)
We went to Delsjön to celebrate it. You know, that amazing place I showed you a few times already, with the lake and super cosy woods around.
The family gathered at my boyfriend’s grandparents place.
There were tents all around the main fika (Swedish coffee break)/eating house, where you could play and try to win some loteries.
(And I totally forgot to take a picture of them, but here you can see the fika house!)
Doug and I bought a few lotery tickets but by the end of the weekend, we didn’t win anything. (。•́︿•̀。)
But we got to walk around this beautiful environment all day long, and got to see the Midsommar dance around the maypole. It was amazing. I got to see the traditional costumes and dances from all different parts of Sweden! ٩(♡ε♡ )۶
Here are some more pictures from that Midsommar weekend! I hope you enjoyed!
P.S. : Rain is completely part of the holiday too, all Swedes joke about how “beautiful” the weather is going to be for Midsommar, secretly hoping to have a sunny day to celebrate... Which never happens most of the time! It always switches between light rain, sunbeams, light rain, sunbeams...
