I loved Annihilation, but even if I didn’t this is an exceptionally clear and compact explanation of why overly literal readings of non-literal films (and other art) suuuuuuuuuck. Of course, even metaphorical readings can differ (in focus or more sharply), but I think his argument holds up even if you read the movie a little differently. This is the kind of thing I see @tha--snazzle and @abloodymess and @riseofthecommonwoodpile writing about really well on here, but it’s nice to have a video I can link people to the next time it comes up.
