July 3, 2000 Aaliyah attends the “Big Pimpin’ Party and Barbecue,” held in East Hampton. It was a weekend long BBQ celebration held by both PDiddy and Jay Z.
During one of her last interviews, with journalist Touré at Jay’s Hamptons mansion just two weeks before her untimely passing in August 2001, Aaliyah said this about her close friend: “He is the sweetest person. I have so much fun when I’m with him. I admire him because he’s an amazing talent, and on top of that he’s a beautiful person. He’s really good people.”
Please note: Yes, Aaliyah attended Diddy’s parties, but that doesn’t automatically mean she stayed late or engaged in everything happening there. Plenty of celebs show up, support, laugh with close friends, grab a plate, and leave before the after-after hours kick in. Not every party is meant to be stayed at ‘til the lights come on. Some of y’all seem fueled by the urge to drag Aaliyah’s name through every rumor and room she was ever in (as if her presence means participation). Aaliyah also never went alone, she was smart to bring close friends to ensure she was not taken advantage of either.

I always thought it was cool that she had JET LI in it. This was like.. his first ever music video debut.. right? She could have done that video ANY way and told a different story in the video of a guy liking a girl and being nervous to ask her out ... but she went this route. They looked like they had so much fun in that video.

Blackground Records 2.0 releases the first single from the posthumous album "Unstoppable", then discloses further details that a new album (with unreleased vocals and features from today's talents) would be released January 2022 - then was pushed to August 2022; and still never occurred to this day (3 years later).
Just recently (yesterday - 12/16/24) one of the producers for the "Unstoppable project" releases a statement that they are planning to release the album early next year (2025). I guess we'll see. Sounds like they might release it around Aaliyah's birthday - the same time the Mattel Aaliyah Signature Doll is release by the Estate. Not sure if this is always coincidence that they (Blackground and the Estate) release things simultaneously or purposely planned.

chartdata releases their list of 'Billboards Greatest Pop Star' (on November 26) for each year (starting in 1983 through 2023) and surprisingly Aaliyah's not mentioned anywhere. She (along with Missy Elliott and Timbaland) changed music in the mid 90s and had a #1 pop hit "Try Again".
A few fans argue that she is not mentioned because "this list is only for those of the 21st century". Umm.... you do know when the 21st century begins right? And you do realize this list starts at 1983 right? Then you get folks who respond saying "well this list was only for pop stars who made a huge impact that year". Ok, that makes better sense, however Aaliyah mad MANY pop songs that made great impacts: such as Are You that Somebody, Try Again.. heck they didn't even know what to do with OIAM and that song CHANGED music inspiring some pop acts as well to want a similar sound (such as Justin Timberlake).
All I am saying is, it would have been nice to have Aaliyah mentioned for the year of 1996 if not 1997. She earned that much! She was the 90s IT girl and was a huge inspiration to SO MANY female R&B and Pop acts (including some of today's big acts). That's gotta mean SOMETHING.
Aaliyah’s grandfather Ernest W. Hankerson passes away November 5th 2003 in Coweta, GA at the age of 89; two years after Aaliyah passed away in 2001. Ernest was born November 29th 1913 in Barnwell, SC.
Ernest was the widower to Mintis L. Hankerson who had passed away a few years prior. Aaliyah dedicated her 3rd album to her grandmother {Mintis}.
