idk if you take this sort of thing but I wrote this poem for my school’s literature magazine :) :
I look into the mirror
and what is it I see?
Something quite unfamiliar
scowling straight back at me.
Its shoulders too broad,
its hips far too thin,
it shoots me a frown
from its grey-shaded chin.
The ghost that doth haunt me,
that lurks in my mind,
is a creature of illness,
and one much maligned.
My perception it taints
so that that which I see
when I look at myself
appears not as though me.
The ghost I want gone,
but it stays in my head
impeding the choice
to get out of bed
The devious gremlin,
it cackles with glee.
In a pitch high and shrill
it then speaks to me:
“That beast that you see,
that gaunt, wretched thing,
that icon of vileness
onto which you cling,
is not truly you,
that’s quite plain to see!
Would you rather not see that
you desire to be?”
The choice it presents me:
to hide or reveal
my nature to all.
Why I could just squeal!
Though perception I fear,
my life soon worth a flatch,
it’s obliged of the egg
to eventually hatch.
So many years on
in the mirror I see
one finally happy
and definitely me.
For I am the ghost
and the ghost is thus me.
We are one and the same,
and now we’re both free.
