“You’re hopeless,” Nagisa sighs, but he drags her out the door anyway, so she can pick her favorite sweets from the shop. “Why didn’t you ask Masaru or Jataro, if you needed it so badly? They live closer. At least, one of them does.”

“N-no way!” Kotoko punches him in the shoulder, and puffs out her cheeks. A light pink dusts her complexion and she hugs her stomach, but other than that, she looks perfectly normal. “I can’t talk to them about something like this!”

Oh, Nagisa thinks, and doesn’t push any further. He supposed it made sense. He’s lucky he’s perceptive, or he would’ve had to sit through a rather awkward conversation… not that it’s anything new. 

They enter the store, and Kotoko immediately sticks to his arm, tugging him straight towards the confectionery aisle, pulling up a bright pink basket on the way. She seems antsy on her feet, and Nagisa offers to carry the basket, only for Kotoko to grab another one and grin at him.

He shakes his head knowingly, and asks, “So, in other news, are you okay?”

“I’m going to die.” Kotoko replies with a wide smile. It’s good acting, and Nagisa would’ve believed it, if her legs weren’t shaking. The only consolation he has is that she isn’t literally going to die, but still…
