Study break!
Hey internet, did I tell you guys I’m studying for my A+ certification? Well I am. :D It’s in preparation for an eventual career change.
Here’s the thought process as of right now:
I want to HELP. I need a skill that translates across all industries, one that could be used at a children’s hopsital, an LGBT center, an advocacy organization, a fire department, an eco-friendly business...something good and helpful.
Computers are fun. I used to love messing around with my old MS-DOS computer when I was a kid, and I love being able to fix what needs to be fixed at home or for family. My aunt thinks I’m some sort of tech mage whenever I fix her stuff, and I really like not paying for repairs.
My library has access to lynda.com. I accessed the A+ cert prep videos...and binge watched them like it was Netflix! It’s interesting stuff! So, yeah, the fact that I’m binge-watching this stuff for funsies tells me I should get an A+ certification.
My next step will likely be a Tier 1 job at a helpful organization. Yeah, it’s call center...but I’ve done cold calls. I’ve answered 911 calls. I can take a shitload of anger over the phone, because the problem people are having is never a problem with me. It’s a problem with their dinner being interrupted, or their relative being sick, or their wallet being stolen. Maybe they can’t compartmentalize their anger--but I sure as heck can!
As a bonus, I figured out why my computer sucks: It only has 4GB of RAM. It’s trying to run 64-bit Windows 10 on 4GB of RAM. Now I just have to figure out if and how I can upgrade that! :D And maybe take apart Husband’s old, broken laptop for practice.
