Moon was just fine the way he was, even if he did have quite a lot of flaws. A lot. One of the reasons I really liked him was because of his personality…

To be honest it’s starting to make me wonder if I should really watch TSAMS anymore. I love it so very much, and it’s improved my art skills and mental state but

it’s also hurt me a lot

When I was already in a really bad mental state it straight up took away two of my comfort characters from me. It literally put me in a more depressive state due to EAPS ending.

• I don’t like the story. We are getting WAY too many movies now about a girl who is “not like other girls” 😁 and has that dorky personality. It worked with Rapunzel because she was locked in a tower for years and knew almost nothing about social cues and the outside world. It worked with Mirabel because she was the black sheep of her family and had almost no one to talk to. It worked with Mei because she was a confident twelve year old. With Billie, it feels so awful and cringe. It still sends me how she was like, “I hate when people stare at me” 🥺 and then she literally slammed the doors open in such a dramatic fashion. Why are you doing that…. My sister & I discussed this recently, and she said it would make sense for her to do that if she were confident in herself like Mei and a popular girl in school. Like, you are calling attention to yourself girlypop!! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

• My sister also made this really good point that the kids were making fun of Billie and calling her an outcast just because she has dyed hair and dresses a little differently. It’s like when they stereotype bullies as people who shove people into their lockers and steal their money. Like this movie doesn’t even feel real. There’s a scene in the trailer where Billie is in the bathroom, and a teacher yells to her, “You owe me a ten page essay on why you’re such a pain in the neck!” 😡 Teachers would NOT say that to even the most misbehaved kids. These scenes make the movie feel so predictable and stupid, it makes me want to rip my hair out…

• I really hate Billie’s description. I’m not even kidding you, when you search up the plot for this movie, you are greeted with a sentence you won’t believe:

A teenage oddball?? How did I even read that?? What planet am I on?? Look, I’m all for people using complex words in their writing, BUT ODDBALL TO DESCRIBE YOUR MAIN CHARACTER?? Pack it up, Disney!! 😭😭

• The original plot sounded a lot better. It was going to be about a boy protagonist finding out he has powers, and his mother going with him to this magical dimension to learn about his true purpose and stuff. Almost like the plot now. Why can’t we have mother-son stories anymore? Look, Disney is great for encouraging girl power stuff, but it’s getting boring now. It’s the same stuff every time. Not only would a boy protagonist be something new and unique, but you can break some barriers and make him hesitant, pathetic, more vulnerable to emotion, and other things. You don’t always have to make the male characters dominant and brave. Especially if it’s one who’s just learning they have magical powers and is transported to a magical world. And you can give him the pink hair too!! That would be so cool!

• I saw a thumbnail and a video that said something like, “Do Disney characters have the same face now?” or something like that, and I agree. Billie and her mom both have that same awkward smile that Mirabel & Asha have. I dunno, just something small I noticed that I wanna stop seeing. Give the characters more than just an awkward smile! Make them actually expressive like you used to!

• And if we are gonna do a mother-daughter story, can we please have the mom be supportive?? I know most families don’t have the most supportive parents (i would know), but it would be really great if we could have parents who actually care about their kids and respect them in these movies! All I’m saying is that I’m really tired of this family trauma trope already, and Disney needs to go back to mother-daughter tropes like Tiana & Eudora, where the mother is supportive of her daughter’s dreams no matter what!

• Again, this plot feels so predictable! Like lemme guess, she’s a socially awkward teen in school who gets expelled for using her magic, and her mother’s like, “Why are you like this?” and the daughter is all pouty in her room, and then gets transported to that magical world and feels safe, and the mother starts feeling guilty for saying whatever to her daughter, and goes to the magical world to apologize to her and make things right again, and they return to the real world, and all of a sudden, everyone likes Billie? Yeah, that’s what I thought.

• I also thought that if Billie was a confident girl, that at first, she would be using her magic selfishly (and maybe that’s why everyone hates her), but then when she goes to this witchy world, she realizes that her magic can also help others and be used for good. And then me and my sister suggested she could meet someone she falls in love with, whether a boy or girl, to help her realize that. We are suckers for old Disney romance, okay

• One more thing, how dare you put Hailee Steinfeld in something like THIS? She better have gotten an apology letter…

But my goodness, it was a place to be. My neighbors had opinions, man. Even the mexican family down the road had some opinions. And like, bless their hearts no one is immune to propaganda, but I just don't understand how they're against immigration when they have the most generically latino sounding names I've ever heard and frequently spoke spanish with my mother.

Thankfully, I no longer live there. My new state even has a lovely synagogue if I'm willing to drive two hours.

Sorry for the rant, but gosh, I cannot imagine having to deal with conserative teachers now that I've been able to have nonconservative professors in my life. Wishing you luck, Sunny. So much luck.

God you're gonna break my heart here and yeah you're right on target. I love my homestate, and I miss it so much, and there were good people there. But most of what people, especially up north ive come to realize, don't understand is just why so much festers here. I mean the roots obviously- background of slavery, heavy christian ties, education issues, etc. But no one dares look too deep at the roots that run far too deep.

Because its a state of comfortability and conformity. Not because hatred just thrives in every crack (at least on an individual scale), but because people don't want to push, or ask the hard questions, or try to silence those who spit venom because its safer to walk away than stop a rattler in its trail. It's not right, but it's what happens.

And you're right it was- unsettling, it was already a slow adjustment for me to speak my mind when coming up north in the first place. But being back in a situation where the instinctual self preservation silence of opinion kicked in? It sucked.

No, this isn't about dating

i know this is a platform for essays, and i love reading those at 3am when i can't sleep, but sometimes, it's really nice to just share my little opinions about little things that rile me up.

case in point, dissecting why women like this, love that, prefer this, hate that. i didn't really notice it, until a bunch of "why women love horror movies/genre/things" came out, and it started to rub me in such a wrong way. don't get me wrong, i believe such analyses are important, beneficial even, but not when we're constantly bombarded by them.

yes, this is low-key a rant. no, i didn't think this through. yes, i am fem presenting. no, i'm not trying to be "not like the other girls." yes, i want to be exactly like all the other girls women.

before anyone comes for me, i don't have a degree in writing or literature or anything related to humanities. my only qualifications are being a yapper, having strong opinions, and being from Balkan (the last one is more of a brag, really). this is not a deep dive, it's a lil drabble about being annoyed by women and their behaviour constantly being hyperanalysed and dissected to the bone, especially compared to men.

why do men love action movies? it appeals to them and their masculinity. the end.

why can't things simply appeal to women and their -inities as well? why do we need all these longform articles that try to force us in one woman-shaped mould? why can't we all just be our own weirdos persons?

I can see what you're saying and I agree.

I feel like his role was smaller than it should. And the lore around him a little messy. The DLC didn't know how to balance between him and Miquella; we all thought it would have something between them, since both of there were the focus and also siblings. In the end, it's quite weird how neutral they are toward each other, as if they ignore each other's existence. I think it's just another sympton of two projects being blended into one.

I don't appreciate how disconnected Messmer feels from the main plot, we use him to burn a stick and that's all. When we learned about his kindling, I hoped to see some big importance just like Melina. But you just go there, fight him, and it's done. He's a main boss, but he doesn't feel like one at all?

About his lore, it's really good most of the part. But then, Shadow Keep has almost nothing regarding Messmer. We have the lore of his knights and soldiers through their equipments and a few stuff about the crusade, about Messmer himself is almost none. And when it comes to his main family (Marika's offspring, not Radagon's), it's even worse. They wasted a chance to tell us really interesting stuff such as:

His relationship with Godfrey. We find a talisman regarding Godfrey at Shadowkeep, and we clearly know they were together alongside Marika. And it's not there was a need to confirm paternity or whatever, but just tell us these two men, so loyal to Marika, had a relationship. This is important

Melina being just a sidenote pisses me off. And I understand this can be seen as way to confirm Melina always belonged to The Lands Between, being born at the foot of the Erdtree. But his directly young sister, that shares his vision of fire. Both of them sacrifices Marika has made.

Godwyn, as Melina, was his younger brother. Coming from the same mother. And with whom Messmer shares the most duality and parallels. They literally are the Golden and the Shadows we see the entire DLC. Yet, there's not a single mention between them. We only have a few items locations that can tell us a little bit through speculation.

Morgott and Mohg, like Messmer's biggest conflict is with the Hornsent. He had two younger brothers with the omen curse. Of course it would be interesting to know how it went for both sides.

Instead, the DLC decides to put Gaius, telling us how a son of a different Mother, that came far too late in the story, sees Messmer as older brother. The most odd stretch in attempt to tie the character to the story, since there wasn't anything that justified him there.

So yeah, I agree that Messmer had much more potential. We always saw him as some sort of Lady Maria, as in Old Hunters DLC, and Lady Maria is really massive to that story. Or even Genichiro, since their complexity and morality are so similar. And Genichiro is well established as a deep well made villain. Messmer, unfortunately, just like Miquella, feels very underused ):

However, kudos once again for giving me the opportunity to rant about a pet peeve of mine, since you said I write them ooc, which, first of, factually incorrect, I develop them in ways that make sense for their characters and the situations they're in (it's all about character development baby!), but also, you know what's actually ooc? The popular headcanon that Ace is a slutty manwhore, nothing against the people who enjoy it, that's their perrogative and, at the ned of the day, what matters is that they're having fun, but let's not pretend that it's not ooc for Ace to be that. Sure, he looks like a fuckboy, doesn't mean he is tho. He may be friendly enough (something he learned and worked to be), but he's also a very guarded person; flirting and having sex with people requires a level of vulnerability that Ace doesn't really allow himself. He's confident, both in his looks and powers, his hang ups come from his lineage, from the fact that he knows that people learning who his bio-father is is an actual risk to his safety, he won't be telling people about that but he also won't it deny their connection if asked. He's someone who graves connection but he's also very clossed off and guarded, understandably so, him being friendly and well-mannered (and just in general a good person that helps those in need) doesn't change that, casual hook-ups would be terrible for his mental health, a form of self harm if you will. Given his circumstances in life, personality and life experiences, it doesn't make sense for him to be a fuckboy or manwhore or just someone who casually sleeps around in general. I do think he's naturally flirty, and by that I mostly mean that the way he interacts, expresses himself and presents his kindness can be easily read as flirting by some people, it doesn't mean that he's flirting tho.

I could go into a better, more detailed analysis as to why its ooc for Ace to be a manwhore/fuckboy, but I'll leave it at that.

Also, I'll never understand some of y'all's fixation with canonicity, that's, obviously, irrelevant to my ships. I just go with whatever I think would be most interesting/entertaining.
