Something to get this blog started...
OK, I've had this blog open for weeks now, with no posts or anything. So, just to break the ice, I'll mention that I hope to blog on running, all things math/quantitative in nature, behavioral finance, politics, theology, social issues and what I presume will be a long list of stupid comments said by the anchors on CNBC's Squawk Box. It is amazing to me how smart people who say they are for free markets apparently have little grasp of free market economics. I have yet to hear Joe Kernen correctly use the word "externality" in a sentence.
On the topic of running, I am currently training for my 11th marathon this Fall, and I've already registered for another one in January. I came into running later in life, not too long after turning 30. Basically, I needed to lose weight - 50lbs to be specific -and so I started exercising. Turns out I like the feeling of getting my heart rate elevated and just going and going and going. Running fast isn't my thing - I do some speed work, but it's not nearly as much fun as settling into a comfortable pace and running for half an hour or an hour or more. It gets almost mystical ... and I am not a person who in any way believes in mysticism. But most days, I truly have no idea of where my mind goes during a long run. An hour can simply disappear, with no real memories of what happened during that time. Not an unusual experience I know, but it's still cool.
