I was massively excited about the release of Cottage Living and like many, quickly became obsessed with playing Sims 4. My Twitch followers had only really seen me play Sims 2, but I soon couldnât stop playing in Henford-on-Bagley. It was only when I found Orianaâs Rags to Riches Lives the Farm Life challenge that I had to switch to Sims 2 due to my Sims 4 game needing an update. I have pretty much all the packs for Sims 4, so updates and patches take a looooonnnnggg time. I then decided âLetâs play this challenge in Sims 2 as well!â and so my love for farming simulation went a whole lot deeper.
Presenting this challenge in Sims 2 led me to also write the rules for this challenge in Sims 3 (which I havenât actually played since 4 was released â shocker, I know!) and here they are, just for your pleasure:
SIMS 2: LIVE THE FARM LIFE (A RAGS TO RICHES CHALLENGE)
Guidelines
You canât use cheats, only âmoveobjects onâ when sims get stuck and any other cheats to fix the game if it goes wrong through no fault of your own.
You can only earn money from fishing, gardening and farming.
You can only eat what others have cooked at parks or community lots.
At the beginning, you will need to create your sim in a family, as teens arenât allowed to live on their own without mods, unless the parents have died while living with a teen (this is how the XXXXXXX family of foster kids are headed by two teen sims).
You cannot sell anything you make within the game, such as sewing objects, until you have completed university degree (more about this later).
The challenge can take as many generations as you like, but apart from completing lifetime aspirations, the other goals in the challenge have no time limit.
As a teen, living with parents, you runaway to university as soon as you have all moved in.
Starting the Challenge
Create your sim with 2 parents who have the fortune aspiration. You may choose any other aspiration for your teen. Give your teen at least 5 neat points, and 5 active points. Choose any Turn Ons that you like but they must have âHard Workerâ as their Turn Off.
Lifespan: Normal
Autonomy: Full
Aspiration: Pleasure (your parents were both obsessed with making a fortune by any means
necessary and that has sent your teen in the opposite direction)
âHard Workerâ Turn Off
5 neat points to your teen
5 active points to your teenBoth parents have Fortune aspiration
If choosing a secondary aspiration via âLifetime Aspiration Benefitsâ (via Aspiration Rewards Tab) you can choose any aspiration except âFortuneâ
Starting Out
You may move your family into any lot you choose. Buy a computer if one is not available on the lot and get your teen to move to college. They must not apply for any scholarships before doing so. Once they have gone to college, they will only have $500 starting funds.
You need to have a Biology Uni degree to start earning money on your farm. You need to first learn the basics. Due to your troubled teenage years, you donât qualify for any scholarships, so you canât apply for those. If you do not own âUniversityâ then you must save $3000 to pay for your degree, then buy a sculpture or painting worth this amount and gift it to another sim. This is roughly the cost of a degree - think of it as online tuition fees in real life.
If anyone gives your Sim a gift, you may sell it. You may not sell the computer Mr. Humble delivers; you must delete the present unopened or leave the computer in your Sim's inventory.
If you have University:
Build the smallest empty 3x1 lot for your teen to move into and name it whatever you like (your teen cannot live in a dorm).
Since you will be left with only $303, you need to head to the local park to begin fishing. TIP: Keep an eye out for someone using the grill as this and the cafeterias are the only places that you can eat at.
You may sell whatever you catch, including boots (worth $15) You need to earn enough to buy a tent (if you have Bon Voyage â cost $650) or a single bed (cheapest $300). Keep in mind that tents also keep your sim dry.
You must use the campus for everything else you need.
You must choose the Biology major.
You must use the campus for everything else you need.
Buy a cell phone as soon as you can afford it.
Only complete the skill points you need to complete your degree. It doesnât matter what grade you get as you are only earning the degree to give you the best farming knowledge to be able to start your farm. Any money you earn from completing your semesters will be gifted away when you move back to a neighbourhood.
Once you have earned your degree, you can move back to any empty lot you choose, in any neighbourhood you choose.
You can only earn money by fishing and gardening.
You may have a home business (if you have âOpen for Businessâ) to sell your produce or choose to sell direct from the inventory.
Building the Farm
You must pay $450 to the local council to before you start building, you donât want the neighbours to complain about the noise!
Once you have paid your $450 and $300 for the blueprints to your land, you may start building
To move on to the next set of goals, you must have one of each of the following:
Toilet
Bed
Sink
Shower or Tub
Stove
Chair or Sofa
Counter
Fridge (once you have used all the food in the fridge, you must stock it with what you produce. Never buy groceries)
Working the Land
You must complete every task for Building the Farm because you are living here forever and you need a proper home
You need to have a Biology Uni degree to start earning money on your farm. You need to first learn the basics. Due to your rocky start in life, you donât qualify for any scholarships, so you canât apply for those. No distinguished degree here⌠If you donât own the University EP, give gifts worth $3k to another sim. This is roughly the cost of a degree - think of it as online tuition fees in real life
Include a pond on your lot
From now on, you should live wholly off your land and produce from the fish (and livestock if you download the mods and CC)
A Functional Farm
To enjoy life on your farm, and after completing all the above assignments, you need to have a fully functional home so you can progress in life. For that you need to have at least:
A living area/room
A kitchen area
2 or 3 bedrooms
A dining space
2 bathrooms
An office area, so you can manage all daily runnings of the farm
Prepare to have a Family
Everything above should be completed.
Find the love of your life! Your Sim can only marry a Townie of the opposite gender. If you have Nightlife, they may only marry if they have at least one attraction bolt. As desperate as your Sim is for company, they won't put up with someone horrifically ugly.
Marry your chosen one and pay for that wedding (costs § 1000), or if you donât want to marry, gift items worth $1000 to another sim.
Everything they bring to the marriage/partnership, must be taken out. You canât keep the money or the furniture
Expand your Family
To have kids, you have to be married/living together first
You must have §5000 saved up in order to have a child. Kids are expensive đ
You can have/adopt as many kids as you want
Roll dice to determine the Aspirations of your Sims' heirs and their siblings: 1 = Knowledge, 2 = Family, 3 = Romance, 4 = Pleasure (or you choose, if you don't have Nightlife), 5 = Fortune, 6 = Popularity
Your kids can only age up once you receive the notification that their birthday is nearly upon them. Then you can buy them a birthday cake
If you are playing the challenge through several generations, the heir must always have good grades and at least 2 skills maxed out
Teenagers canât have part-time jobs; they need to help with the farm and/or run errands to earn money for the family piggy bank
Have grandchildren, be a loving grandparent
Aspiration Goals
You must complete the lifetime aspiration for both you and your spouse/partner
The heir must complete their adult lifetime aspirations too
Money Goals
You must have a house worth §100,000
You must have §200,000 in the household funds
For a more extended game, you can set the goal to reach §1,000,000
The Farm Life Goals
Have one male and 2 females of either:
Pigs
Sheep
Goats
And a barn for chickens:
With only 1 male rooster
â Dogs and cats are great additions to farm life
Have at least one full chicken coop but only have one rooster. You can sell your extra male chicks once they have reached adulthood
Money Trees cannot be purchased using the Aspiration Rewards
The heir MUST be the same gender as your original Sim. If the firstborn is the opposite gender, in other words, keep trying until you get the right gender. You may not adopt.
Your "breeding pair" of Sims must remain in the house until they die--they have nowhere else to go. This means that your original Sim, their husband or wife, and the various heirs and their husbands or wives must live in the house for their entire lives. Their siblings or extraneous children, however, may move out once they reach adulthood.
No NPCs. No one lives close enough to offer to babysit your children or clean your house.
Roll dice to determine the Aspirations of your Sims' heirs and their siblings. 1 = Knowledge, 2 = Family, 3 = Romance, 4 = Pleasure (or you choose, if you don't have Nightlife), 5 = Fortune, 6 = Popularity.
If your sim wants a car, you may only own a Smord P328.
If you own FreeTime, your sim cannot buy any clothes, all clothes must be made on the sewing machine.
If you have Open for Business, you must earn silver badge in Toy Making as you cannot buy any toys for your children. Instead:
Kids can have 5 toys made by your sim:
a Sir Bricks-a-Lot
a fire truck
a clown-in-a-box
a kite
a teddy (can be made using the sewing machine from FreeTime with a bronze badge)
You can also buy the lemonade stand for your children to start learning the business.
You can buy the Rip Co. Little Baker Oven for your child to begin learning to cook at an early age
If you donât have OFB or FreeTime, you can only buy:
the dollhouse
a teddy
