Laine stared at a blank, dark corner in her childhood room, her bedside lamp on well after midnight and her phone gripped tightly in her hand. Every time she closed her eyes, she swore she heard someone in her room, and every time she opened them again, she thought she saw someone step out of the shadows. Tuesday night and the subsequent hospital stay fried her nerves completely, and despite the way the painkillers and a small does of anti-anxiety meds made her body beg her to sleep, she still remained wide awake, if a little out of it. It didn’t help that her former bedroom brought her no measure of comfort. Her parents redecorated when she moved out, and so it was entirely absent of anything familiar except the shape and the actual bed itself, and so much like the hospital, it felt nauseatingly unfamiliar, and Laine couldn’t deal in unfamiliar right now.
Her parents wanted her to remain in bed as much as possible lest she pull her stitches, but the witch carefully slid her feet to the floor and began the silent walk to her younger sister’s room. All of her siblings except Corrina had moved out, but her sister was the only one she really wanted to talk to right now anyway. She lightly knocked on her sister’s door and quietly turned the handle to open it a little. “Cor? You awake?” she asked. @corrxna
