Buck's got so used to being a gentle giant that the thought of manhandle someone it's the last thing on his mind. He uses his size to protect people (from the cold wind, the sun or on calls) and make them happy (hugs, playing with kids and stuff like that).
Eddie can't wait to be manhandled now he's got himself a big muscular boyfriend. But it never happens. It's so frustrating. He can't manhandle Buck. The guy is like 50 pounds heavier than him. It won't work.
So, he has to pull out the big guns. He plays the injured to get lifted over a shoulder. He fakes being tired so Buck will pick him up and takes him to bed and position him in a comfortable way. He brats as much as he can to force Buck to grab him by the arm or push him against a wall. He teases him at work until he's horny enough to forget he's a gentleman and picks him up and throws him on the bed, pins his hands above his head and reminds him how to behave.

We didn't see Buck's disciplinary hearing because it went like this:
LAFD Big-Wig: Evan Buckley apparently has an addiction to opioids. He was tempted to steal them from an ambulance.
LAFD Big-Wig 2: The same Evan Buckley who was crushed by a ladder truck on our watch?
BW 1: Yes.
BW 2: The same Buckley that was struck by lightning and died on our watch?
BW 1: Temporarily died, but yes.
BW: The same Evan Buckley that turned down a $5 million dollar settlement from the city just because he wanted to work the job while on blood thinners?
BW 1: Do you remember everything?
BW 2: THE SAME EVAN BUCKLEY THAT WAS RUN OFF THE ROAD AND KIDNAPPED WHILE ON HIS WAY BACK FROM THE FIREFIGHTER GAMES, THAT HE JUST WON?!
BW2: THE SAME EVAN BUCKLEY THAT HELPED CONTAIN A SUPER-LETHAL VIRUS AND HELPED CAPTURE THE PERSON WHO CREATED IT AND ESSENTIALLY SAVED THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES?
*deep dragging breath*
THE SAME EVAN BUCKLEY WHO USED HIS ACTUAL BODY TO HELP CLEAR A FREEWAY SO HIS ALMOST STEP-MAMA COULD LAND A PLANE ON THE FREEWAY?
BW 1: He also helped commandeer a chopper to save people on a capsized cruise ship. He thinks we are going to fire him.
BW 1 and BW 2: *laugh hysterically*
*receives text messages*
BW 1: It appears, while in recovery for said opioid addiction, Evan Buckley helped save 14 kidnapped migrants.
Okay, my 2 cents on Eddie and Alex. And Abigail who started it all.
I think there's additional context and framing around the re-introduction of Alex in this episode that people need to look at more closely. She was introduced with Abigail's POV and that's coloured it a bit. In the romantic sense.
Just before Alex appears, we have the conversation between Abigail and Buck about choosing your family outside of blood relations. And Abigail looks at Eddie like this.
Eddie who is suddenly in slow motion.
And Abigail who looks like she's choosing him to be her new family.
A moment later, Alex walks in and Eddie greets her and we hear her acknowledge him back pretty audibly as the camera focuses on Abigail straightening her back, dare I say, defensively at the newcomer. She immediately asks who she is, her body language fully guarded at this point.
The newcomer who is a woman, suddenly beside Eddie, seen to be smiling at him, chatting with him casually, even happily, her voice inaudible.
Buck tells her who that is and we get this really interesting shot of Abigail now. Looking betrayed.
We even get this picturesque shot of Alex right before Eddie introduces her to Abigail.
Yeah girl, real normal reaction to have to someone you don't even know. She already looks like she doesn't trust Alex at all. (Sorry if the screenshots are blurry, the shots go by really fast).
Isn't it so great when the man you look up to (in whatever sense) introduces you to a woman, who is a perceived threat for whatever reason, who says you are mental? Oh, and she's also smiling prettily at (your) man.
The subsequent conversation with Alex, Abigail is distrustful of her until Alex mentions she already has somewhere for Abigail to go and Abigail softens to the idea, and her.
Until she hears what kind of housing it is and her defenses go right back up. We know that she only agrees because Eddie persuades her.
I think when she hears 'faith-based', she feels transported back to her home, surrounded by a bunch of adults who don't understand her at all, deciding her fate for her. She was never going to comply fully.
Of course she turns up at Eddie's again, pulling at his heartstrings, trying to get the one adult who showed her true grace on her side. How she knew where Eddie lived... well, that's another conversation. Probably the same conversation as how she knew where Chris's school was.
Probably baseless spec on my part but honestly that question of Chris's age and "you're so young" makes me think that she came to Eddie's hoping to offer herself up as a live-in nanny to the five or six yr old she was hoping to find. Anything to get Eddie to see her as more than a victim he'd rescued. Anything to make her more his family. And anything to get out of that faith-based transitional housing.
So casual, right? Not making eye contact. That light tone in her voice as she makes her casual statements and observations. That side eye at the end. Oh Abigail. (Christopher you are not helping).
These are teen tactics btw. Textbook high school tactics to gauge the interest a boy (you're interested in) has in another girl. Uncomfortable as fuck for a grown man though.
"I'm so dumb." Yeah, that's 100% something a teenager would say when she finds out her crush doesn't actually return the feelings she'd hoped he has for her.
Eddie regretting that whole thing, oof.
So taking how everything was framed from Abigail's perspective, Alex as a romantic interest for Eddie was definitely something only Abigail saw/misinterpreted and then projected onto Eddie when she got him alone. I don't think she was angling for anything romantic from Eddie for herself but forming some kind of connection with Eddie would definitely be easier if there was no one in her way.
Eddie didn't react in any favourable way to her awkward questioning either. It just made him incredibly uncomfortable. That wasn't a man shy about someone spotting his potential interest in a woman.
Looking at all this, I honestly don't think Alex is someone who's actually going to become a serious love interest for Eddie. Not when her "romantic introduction" came from a teenager abnormally attached to the man who saved her life.
I wanna see Abigail's motives for kidnapping Christopher but I don't think it's anything malicious since her goal is to get in with Eddie and have him accept her as family. It is possible she wants to use Chris (whether via a conversation with him or showing Eddie that she can be helpful to him with Chris) as a way in with Eddie and it goes wrong.
i actually want more jealous/possessive eddie in season 9 pre-buddie canon. like, all those weird facial expressions and voice changes and those petty one-liners he did with abby, taylor and tommy? beautiful. amazing. i want him to be weird and pissed off and so jealous that he can’t even control it, and his dissociative brain doesn’t even register what he’s doing until it’s too late and he’s already acted weird when buck was hit on by other people. and i want buck to be oblivious to it at first. ‘cause that’s just eddie - he was born a bitch, nothing to see here
but after a few cases like that, they both finally put two and two together. eddie starts to realize that it’s probably not normal to be so infuriated at the thought of buck finding a new partner. and buck starts to think that it’s probably not normal how eddie reacts to his new romantic prospects, or even casual flirting
it could even take just one episode. and the other storylines could be like jee getting jealous because of their second baby (i think my brain refuses to remember his name correctly, i’m sorry. is it rob nash? idk) and because he gets more attention than her (that’s a very common problem with younger siblings)
same with the other characters. maybe someone ends up in an emergency and has to call 911 after going a little off the rails from irrational jealousy. not in a dangerous way, but more like getting into an awkward situation
idk, it would just be funny for jealousy to be the theme of the episode, and for some reason best friends buck and eddie get that storyline… what reason could that be, hmm?

Okay I saw someone talking about the "I am the other guy" scene and I wanted to throw my interpretation up.
"You look like hell" - this is Buck trying to lighten the mood and just textually, him commenting on the fact that Eddie looks beat up.
"You should see the other guy" - classic response, everyone knows what this means but for the purposes of my interpretation I will point out that it implies "the other guy" in this scenario looks worse/more beat up.
"I am the other guy" - Here I think this is just Buck saying that he is the one who looks worse, he is the guy who is more beat up. This makes sense in the context of the conversation to me at least.
"Yeah, I know" -the words themselves here don't say a ton, but God. The delivery. This is just my interpretation and we may be treading into delulu land at this juncture so hear me out: even though Buck meant "I am the other guy" to mean that he is the one who looks worse, Eddie's response reads to me like he heard what Buck was saying, but he also heard "I am the Other Guy. I am your guy. I am the one." and his response to that is "yeah, I know. I know you're the one"
Part of the reason I think this is because I firmly believe that Eddie knows he's gay, and I think he knows he's in love with Buck. So his soft, "Yeah, I know" is almost a love confession, but not one that Buck can understand. Like when Buck says he's the other guy, that's where Eddie's perception of what's being said splits from Buck's and that's why Eddie's delivery sounds more like an admission than an agreement.
thing is, while the portrayal of buck and eddie as a couple, married or otherwise, may be a bit too pointed this season, it is not something new. eddie, especially, has assigned buck the spousal role from the very beginning. their last major fight, aka the famous 8x17 kitchen fight was literally an escalation of the fact that eddie sees buck as a spouse, wants buck to be there as spouse, needs the same level of support and vulnerability from him. and buck, emotionally, simply is not allowing himself to go anywhere near that. because then he will have to look at this thing between them, acknowledge it. and perhaps even label it. hence the fight.
what's happening in 9x14 is kind of similar, even though we haven't reached the point of a fight yet. eddie wants buck to be vulnerable and buck is locking himself away instead.
but whats interesting and different about 9x14 is that this time around eddie seems to have put HIMSELF in the spousal role. he is not waiting around for buck to come to him, eddie is done being a passive side character in his own story. he is being proactive. he is repeatedly reaching out, checking in. he is vocal about his concerns, not believing buck's bullshit for a second even though he is being cautious and giving him space. this is very consistent with the theme of eddie's arc this season btw. he is taking charge.
so it will be really interesting to see if this role reversal will change the outcome this time around or will we get kitchen fight 2.0
