Imagine Chimney going through Bobby's desk in his office. Having to clear personal things out. It breaks his heart, but also warms him because the captain was sentimental.
Then he comes across a small blue book labeled simply "Buck." Curious, he opens and flips through it.
Kid has eating problems. Will forget to eat when stressed. Feed him, and encourage him to cook, because he likes to taste-test a lot.
Chimney remembers that. Buck mentioning getting so hungry the starving pains go away. He does remember during the shitty times when Buck lost so much weight.
-Loves carbs
-Hates Okra
-Probably allergic to shellfish and mangos. Encourage him to get an allergy test
-Allergic to Naproxen
-Allergic to heavy fragrance laundry detergents. Use gentle.
-Remind him he's doing a great job. Use positive reinforcement.
-If he's depressed, as Maddie says, hand him a child. May and Harry work too.
-He's finally gaining weight! :)
-The Buckley parents are banned. Do not ask why. Firehouse is his safe area.
-He fidgets when he's stressed. Have him chop some vegetables or prepare them for you. He loves being helpful.
-He loves his clipboard. Have him organize important events. Give him gold stars. Do not let Hen and Chimney hide it. He gets sad.
-Remind him not to read too close or in the dark. He's gonna need glasses at this point. (If he does, don't let others tease him. Tell him he looks great)
-He doesn't admit it, but his leg still bothers him. Heating blankets are in the closet in the office. Have Eddie massage his leg or send him home early if he's obviously struggling.
Chim laughs. He laughs, and laughs, and starts to cry. Of all things, he did not expect to find a "How to Take Care of Your Buck" guide hidden away in Bobby's desk.

theo asking buck at a 118 family dinner if âdadâ can read his bedtime story tonight because he does better voices. the mood gets a little somber and buck tries to save it by saying âhey, but you liked when i read you that story we picked out yesterday, right bud?â and theo groans and is like ânooo, i like it when dad does it!â and points at eddie. bc dad is what christopher calls him. buck proceeds to choke on his drink and only recovers after eddie thumps him on the back a handful of times (the madneyhenren group chat is on fire for the rest of the night)

âOkay, Iâve gotta run.â Eddie says, looking a bit frazzled as he looks around. âWhere are myââ
âRight here.â Buck interrupts, holding out the keys Eddie was searching for. âAnd relax, you have plenty of time.â
âTraffic, Buck, traffic.â Eddie snarks playfully, taking the keys. âThank you.â
âNo problem.â
âChris, be good.â Eddie says to his son, the teenager playing a video game that neither Buck or Eddie had been able to figure out the gist of. âDonât give Buck too many time outs.â
âHey!â
âWill do.â
Eddie shoots Buck a quick smile as he walks over to the couch, leaning down to press a kiss to the top of his sonâs head. âLove you.â
âYou too. Have fun with Frank.â
âSo much fun.â Eddie drawls, standing up straight, âI love tearing myself open and then stitching myself back together.â
âWhat matters is itâs working.â Buck offers with a happy chirp.
âSure.â Eddie chuckles, closing the distance between them. His hand rests on Buckâs hip as he leans in and pecks Buck quickly on the mouth, âBe good. Back later.â
He doesnât think anything of it as he turns and leaves the house, the door closing behind him.
It isnât until heâs halfway to his truck that what happened hits Eddie.
He freezes. Heart racing in his chest. Mouth going dry.
The press of Buckâs mouth against his own lingers on his lips.
Because he just kissed Buck.
Eddie turns on his heel and slowly walks back towards the front door. He twists the handle and pushes the door open.
Buck is staring back at him, mouth agape, eyes wide.
âDid I justâŚâ Eddie trails off.
âYup.â Buck squeaks, cheeks flushing red.
âRight.â Eddie nods, heart racing so fast in his chest heâs terrified heâs going to have a heart attack. âOkay.â
âOkay?â
âI shouldâŚâ Eddie doesnât move. Doesnât look away from Buck.
âYou should.â Buck nods. He hasnât looked away either. âFrankâll be waiting.â
âYeah. Frank. Right.â Eddie is moving forward though. His feet are carrying him towards Buck instead of away. Heâs not getting into his truck to go to therapy. Eddie is getting closer to Buck, whoâs frozen inâŚfear? Anticipation?
But itâs the hope in his eyes that have Eddie curling a hand around Buckâs neck, and tugging him close so that Eddie can kiss him again.
Buck sinks into it immediately, fingers clutching at Eddieâs hips.
âDad.â Chris huffs with exasperation, making the two jump apart, âYouâre actually going to be late now. You can kiss Buck later. Heâll still be here when you get back.â
âYeah, he will.â Eddie mumbles, smiling at Buck.
âYeah, I will.â Buck grins back, pecking Eddie once more. âFrank is also going to love this.â
Laughing, Eddie forces himself to step away, âOh, definitely.â

The light from the fridge casts a light across Buckâs face, harshly contrasting the dim light coming from the television as he opens the door to grab the ingredients he needs.Â
âThe butter needs to be room temperature,â he tells you sadly, glancing in your direction as he places the eggs and butter on the kitchen island. Your legs are dangling off the counter as you watch his every move, the cool counter pressing against the backs of your thighs in a way that makes you shiver in your sleepy state.Â
Itâs late; 2:30am the last time you checked, and you and Buck had the silly idea to pull an all-nighter, since you both have a few days off of work. Just like you used to do with your friends when you were kids.
âIâm sure theyâll be just as good. And, a lot better than store bought cookie dough,â you tell him with a soft laugh, rolling your eyes.Â
Honestly, youâre just glad Buck has agreed to bake cookies for you this late. While you were watching a movie, the main character was making cookies, and suddenly you needed chocolate chip cookies. Like, immediately.
"Definitely better,â he says with a smirk, giving you a wink before pulling out the rest of the ingredients from the cupboards.
He helped you onto the counter before he began his work, telling you that he wanted to make them for you, and that all he needed from you was to sit there, look pretty, and keep him company. And with a face like that, how could you say no?
You watch as he measures out his dry ingredients, then mixes everything together, but he pauses every so often to give you gentle kisses, the ends of his curly hair tickling your forehead each time. When his hands arenât somehow all sticky from the dough â you quickly learned how messy of a baker he was when you first started dating â heâd place a hand on your thigh, taking comfort in the warmth of your skin and the fact that he could feel the goosebumps under his palm. He always knows that youâre sleepy because you get cold, and your skin erupts in goosebumps.
âWhat do you think youâd be doing right now if we never met?â you ask quietly after a few moments of silence. He looks up at you from his bowl with furrowed brows, tilting his head to the side.Â
âIs this the beginning of a breakup conversation?â he replies in a slightly teasing tone, although you can practically see the gears turning in his head as he studies your expression, and your body language, and your eyes.
Your eyes soften, and you immediately shake your head, giving him a reassuring smile as you hold your hand out. He reaches out for it, not letting it hang in the air for longer than a second or two, and lets you pull him forward until his body is positioned right between your legs, although with his hands all doughy, he opts to place his wrist under your palm.
âBaby, I have absolutely no intention of breaking up with you anytime soon. I was just thinking. How different would our lives be if we never met?â you say as you wrap your arms around his shoulders, letting your hands dangle behind his head as his lay on the counter on either side of you, making sure not to get your pajamas dirty from the dough covering his hands.
âTheyâd be very different. Iâd be fast asleep right now, thatâs for sure,â he teases with a cheeky smile. You laugh softly, rolling your eyes. It may have been your idea to pull an all-nighter, but he happily agreed that it would be fun. You didnât even have to try to convince him.
âIâm serious,â you say with a laugh, leaning forward slightly, âI donât know what Iâd do if I never met you.â Your voice is softer now, a hint of vulnerability creeping in. You met Buck purely by chance, and you still think itâs a miracle that he took interest in you, despite him thinking the exact same thing about you.
âIâd be looking for you,â he says after a moment, shrugging as if itâs that simple. And to him, it is.Â
Your eyes soften, and your head tilts to the side as your throat suddenly gets tight with your growing emotions.
âFor me?â you ask in a teasing, yet slightly disbelieving tone, and he shrugs again with a nod. Thereâs no hint of uncertainty in his eyes.
âIâd be looking for someone who makes me happy, and who knows what I need without me even having to think to ask, and who is so beautiful that I canât even believe that theyâre with me. So, yeah, you.â You smile, feeling your face heat up. You can practically feel the love radiating from the deepest part of him and into your chest, and while your entire body suddenly feels warm, your cheeks feel like theyâre on fire. Suddenly, youâre not so tired anymore.
âIâd be looking for you, too,â you reply, feeling tears prick your eyes as you lean forward and let your forehead rest against his. Buck has to keep a sliver of his mind occupied on not putting his hands on you, no matter how much he wants to feel your soft skin under his fingers. He wishes he washed his hands before coming over to you, but he wouldnât have dared to let your hand stay raised in the air longer than a split second, just like he wouldnât dare to part from you right now.
âYeah?â he whispers, breathing in the faint scent of your body wash now that heâs so close. He wants to touch you so bad, and his self-restraint is wearing thin.
âMhm. Except maybe without the snoring. Iâve never heard anyone that sleeps so loud.â You match his tone, letting out a soft laugh as he suddenly pulls his face back with a scoff, his brow raised and a smirk growing on his lips.
âReally? Because I seem to remember getting a text a few days ago saying that someone thought it was too quiet to sleep while I was at work,â he challenges, his eyes moving down to your lips for a second before moving back up to meet your gaze, the smug smirk still plastered to his face as you fight back a smile.
âI sent that in a moment of weakness,â you argue quietly, pursing your lips to stop the grin from making its way onto your face.
âHey, come on, donât pretend you donât love it,â he continues, his hands now raised off of the counter and hanging in the air. Theyâre dangerously close to your waist; if he could touch you, heâd be tempted to tickle your sides to see that gorgeous smile grace your face, but he holds back. Instead, they just remain frozen, almost able to feel the warmth radiating from your soft body.
âI plead the fifth,â you tell him, reaching down and grabbing his wrists. You saw them out of the corner of your eye, full of dough and dangerously close to your pajama top, and the last thing you want to do is go upstairs and change.
You hold his wrists out between your bodies, and all Buck does is chuckle, rolling his eyes and murmuring a soft âbratâ before leaning in and catching your lips in an intoxicating kiss.Â
In the heat of the moment, you let go of Buckâs wrists, instead grabbing onto his hoodie and pulling him closer to you while your legs wrap around his waist, and he lets his hands go up to your cheeks. Neither of you notice at first, despite the sweet smell of brown sugar filling your nostrils, and he deepens the kiss, letting his lips work in tandem with yours as he savours the feel and taste of your mouth on his.Â
Your noses brush against each other as you tilt your heads, and a low hum escapes Buckâs throat as his tongue meets yours when you part your lips. All you can focus on is each other as the oven beeps behind you, signalling that itâs time to put your cookies in, and Buckâs stubble scratches your face in a way that makes your head spin. Youâre pretty sure the fire alarm could go off right now, and you still wouldnât part from him.
You finally have to pull away to catch your breath, and when you do, you finally notice that your cheeks are now sticky. You giggle softly, and you canât bring yourself to be upset with Buck about it. Not when he just kissed you like his life depended on it.
âFinish my cookies, Buckley,â you whisper after a moment of looking into each other's eyes, and then he finally pulls away from you, immediately missing the feeling of your thick thighs wrapped around him.
âYes maâam,â he murmurs, then dumps the chocolate chips into the mixture before mixing, humming in approval when theyâre fully combined.
You take this time to wash the dough off your skin; not bothering to go upstairs to actually wash your face, rather merely using a wet paper towel over the sink to wipe off the residue. You know youâll regret it later, but right now, you wouldnât dream of being that far away from Buck. Not when the soft light from the tv mixes with the overhead oven light, and the soft sound coming from the credits of the movie envelopes the main floor of Buckâs loft and makes you feel so safe and calm.
When the cookies are in the oven, Buck helps raise you back up onto your spot on the counter, then makes himself at home between your legs, wrapping his arms around your plush middle and resting his head comfortably on your shoulder. You wrap your arms around his shoulders immediately, letting him melt into you as you wait for the timer. The steady feeling of his breath on your skin makes you feel even more at ease, if at all possible.
You donât talk for those 10 minutes; you just bask in each other's presence. Itâs past 3am now, youâre sure of it, but neither of you care. All you care about is how good it feels to be in Buckâs arms, and to know that youâve found someone to bake cookies with in the middle of the night, just because you felt like it. Someone to bake cookies for you despite being so tired. Just because he loves you so deeply.

Christopher makes a few friends in Texas and casually brings up Buck to all of them (because he misses that guy, like, a lot) and theyâre like âoh is your dad like gay or something?â all snarky (because theyâre middle school boys from Texas and we canât have anything) Chris has this urge to defend his parents and heâs like âno! Even though it wouldnât matter if they were because no one should care about that stuff! Heâs just my dadâs best friendâ
And then one of his new friends trauma dumps and is like âthatâs what my mom said about her best friend, but then she ended up divorcing my dad and lives with her now. I caught them making out two months ago.â
Chrisâs stomach drops to the floor right then, because oh my god, his friend is onto something. Oh my god, buck and his dad were dating/had dated. Did he break them up?? No, wait, his dad was dating Ana. And then kissed that woman who looked like his dead mom.
But god, what if they started dating after Chris fled to Texas? Jesus Christ, it would make sense. The amount of times Chris has seen those two face time??? He even caught an âI love youâ âI love you tooâ between them once, but he just figured it was just them being best friends. That was probably normal, but now looking back on it, those two were pretty codependent. Why didnât they tell him yet? Maybe they were scared he wouldnât take it well, after the whole dead mom thing, but Chris would. Of course he would, itâs Buck. Buck was basically his other dad already
When Chris gets home he finds Eddie and is like âdad Iâm really sorry, we can go back home now if you want.â Eddie is wildly confused, because he thought Chris was adjusting perfectly fine here. So heâs like âuhhhh what?â
And Chris rolls his eyes and is like âdad, I know you and Buck are dating, Iâm sorry for making you come out here to get me.â Eddie bluescreens and is just like âuhhhhhhhhhh what?â again.
Chris rolls his eyes again and this time he lets out a little sigh for emphasis. Because why is his dad trying to play dumb? Itâs not like his dad hid it well, either. Looking back on everything, it was probably just a matter of time before the two of them started. So he says this, and is all âstop lying to me dad, you canât hide it from me anymoreâ
Eddie is just looking at his kid with a slightly horrified expression, because his kid has it all wrong. Heâs straight. So heâs like âno, no, Chris youâve got it all wrong, me and Buck are Not Dating. Weâre Just Friends,â but as heâs talking his face falls a little and he doesnât know why but thereâs a little pang in his chest.
Chris gives up because he just figures that theyâre just waiting until theyâre physically together again to tell him, or, oh no, that they broke up because his dad moved back to Texas for him. He gets a little teary eyed, and Eddieâs like âwait, Chris, whatâs wrongâ and Chris says âwas it my fault?â
Eddieâs kind of confused again, but he gets what Chris means and goes âno, Chris, nothingâs your fault, me and Buck were never together. We were not dating, we have not dated,â and heâs kinda just pleading with his kid to get that awful look off of his face, but Chris just gets kinda mad and storms off to his room going âdad, stop lying to me, Iâm not a baby anymore I know that you and Buck were a coupleâ
Eddie just kinda helplessly watches him go, because what can he say to that? He doesnât have the best track record for keeping his relationships transparent to Chris, and he doesnât blame the kid for not believing him. But also, why would Chris think that he was dating buck? So he thinks about it.
Realizes that yeah, they continuously say âI love youâ before they hang up the phone (which theyâre always using to FaceTime each other btw)
And yeah, maybe they have played the âyou hang up firstâ âno you hang up firstâ game an embarrassing about of times
And before he left to get Chris, his hugs and such did linger a little bit too long to be platonic.
Fuck, was he dating buck? Was that why buck was so weird about him leaving?
God, he was, wasnât he?
So he calls Buck after trying to talk to Christopher about this to no avail, and is like âBuck, Christopher isnât talking to me again and heâs freaking out and I donât know what to doâ because this is what he always does when thereâs a Christopher development, and Buck goes âwell did you kiss another doppelganger again ha ha?â Eddie rolls his eyes even though Buck canât see him and is like âshut up Buck itâsââ
And he doesnât know what the hell else to say. How does one tell their best friend that oneâs son thinks theyâre dating?

A little Drabble I wrote based on this tumblr post I found on Pinterest:
(thank you @pettyeddiediaz for your amazing brain)
Imagine the dinner scene at a nice restaurant instead of at Eddie's house - they're dressed up, having a fancy dinner, drinking expensive wine, almost like a good-ending of Buck and Abby's date.
Eddie wakes up when he's about to kiss Buck next to his jeep, after the date. Dream-date was picture perfect, conversation flowed like a stream, they were making heart eyes at each other all the time, it was everything you'd see on a romantic movie with a happily ever after.
But then, Eddie wakes up, and he goes to his kitchen and it's nothing like his dream, but it feels right. Buck has flour on his cheeks and hair, is wearing an old apron Eddie is almost sure Abuela gifted to Buck, there's a bit of pancake batter spilled on the kitchen counter. Chris is sitting at the kitchen counter looking this close to falling asleep on his eggs and bacon, and Buck is chatting happily while flipping pancakes, his back to the door. Eddie stands there, leaning against the doorframe⢠for a moment, taking in the scene, the domesticity of it all.
The camera points back to Buck, who turns around with a pancake on his spatula, gaze down as he puts it on a plate. Then he looks up, just as a ray of sunshine enters through the kitchen window, and smiles that Buck⢠smile, the one that makes his eyes go ^^ and says "hey, Eddie" or something equally simple and familiar and Eddie smiles, slowly, softly, in that way that Ryan Guzman has mastered where his eyes go all soft and gooey and we Knowâ˘, but then his smile falls just as slowly.
Maybe there's an initial monologue by Eddie about how important friends are, that cuts in the middle of the word "friend" when Buck smiles, and it just ends with the fanfic-cliche "Oh".
Then the theme of the calls is like, doing things you're afraid of, because the reward might be worth it. In between are scenes of Eddie speaking with Hen in hushed voices, looking distraught, maybe even crying, pulling away from Buck in subtle and not-so-subtle ways.
I'd love to see Eddie having a full blown panic attack and his self-discovery arc spanning several episodes, but I'm also a sucker for him having said panic attack and kissing Buck through the tears or something like that.
Omg Cole, congratulations! This is such a big milestone and I couldnât be prouder of you!
Can I please do 7 and 8 with Buck, please!
Thank you so much!! <3 I hope you enjoy!!

âTell me you feel the same- tell me Iâm not crazy.âÂ
You can hardly believe what you just heard. Your best friend is standing in front of your door, confessing how much he loves you- has loved you for years. Youâre convinced that youâre making it all up in your head like you have been imagining for years. Buckâs looking at you like youâre the only person in the world- has he always looked at you like that?Â
âI had a dream about this,â you manage to say, completely dumbfounded by his words. Itâs all you can manage to muster because of the way your mind is racing. Again, youâre having trouble believing that all of this is real- that heâs here, and he loves you. Youâd long ago given up on you and Buck ever being more than just friends.Â
Now itâs Buck's turn to look at you slack jawed. What does that mean? Is that a good thing or a bad thing? His mind is reeling, terrified that heâs about to face another rejection, another person who doesnât want him- and itâs from the person who means the most to him. Right when heâs thinking heâs lost you, youâre able to finally form a coherent sentence and bring him back to the moment.
âI love you too,â you confess, feeling the weight lift from your shoulders. You can watch his eyes soften, and you can practically see his mind still- your words grounding him in a way only youâve ever been able to do. âI always have.â
The corners of his lips turn upward into that beautiful smile of his, and you donât miss the way his eyes light up from your confession. He hesitates, only for a second, and his eyes flick down to your lips before he takes a confident stride forward and kisses you, like heâs wanted to since forever.Â
I wrote a drabble inspired by this post by @unidentifiedseacreature. Enjoy â¤ď¸
Itâs out there.
The biggest, scariest, most life-changing thing Eddieâs ever carried inside his heart is finally out there.
For years, it had lived in him like a secret pulse - something shapeless and heavy, always just under the surface. He didnât have a name for it at first, unsure exactly what it was, but knowing it was something. A warmth he didnât want to look at too closely. And then one day, it had a name. He knew what it was, but the knowing of it scared him so bad heâd shoved it deep down and built walls around it.
But this last year has been a goddamn shit show.
Chris leaving. Saying goodbye to Buck and the 118 and packing up his life to move back to Texas - back to the life that had felt like a prison. Finally standing up to his parents. Watching Bobby almost die, then retire. Moving back to LA. Watching Buck move out. Then Athena and Hen going to space and almost dying.
And through it all, Eddie kept thinking. Kept picking through the wreckage of his life, holding things up to the light.
Heâd gone back to see Father Brian a few times which had opened up a whole other can of worms that had Eddie going right back to therapy and having many late night conversations with Hen, who somehow always asked the questions he was afraid to.
Bit by bit, he stopped running from the thing. Stopped pretending it wasnât there and actually acknowledged it.
Named it.
Accepted it.
And once heâd accepted it, it was like it started breathing on its own, like heâd given it life. Like his heart had grown a living thing that wriggled around and pressed against his ribs, begging to be free.
It became too much to contain, and Eddie didnât want to hold it in anymore.
Heâd done enough repressing and masking to last a lifetime, and heâd promised Hen, his therapist, himself, that heâd do his best to stop.
So early one morning after a long shift, as the golden light was spilling in through the kitchen window and gently caressing Buckâs face, Eddie finally opened up his heart and set it free.
He told Buck he was in love with him.
He feels relieved.
He feels terrified.
Because Buck hasnât said anything. Hasnât moved, hasnât uttered a single sound to interrupt him, and Eddieâs still talking, rambling, tripping over his own heart, afraid that if he stops, heâll shatter.
His chest tightens, breath catching where moments ago it had flowed so easily. He risks a glance at Buck â just a glance â and itâs enough to knock the air right out of him.
Because Buck is smiling.
Not just smiling â beaming. A smile so wide it has his eyes crinkling, his cheeks turning that lovely shade of punk that matches his birthmark.
Heâs the most beautiful thing Eddieâs ever seen.
âYeah?â Buck asks, voice soft and small, like heâs afraid to believe it.
âYeah,â Eddie breathes.
Buck swipes a hand over his face, huffing a laugh like heâs trying to keep himself together. âI love you too. God, Eddie, I love you so much it hurts.â
âIt doesnât have to hurt anymore,â Eddie whispers as he steps closer, finally allowing himself to reach out and touch. He gently cups Buck's face between his hands, thumbs stroking softly over his cheek bones. âWe can have this. We can love each other loudly. Let me love you loudly, Buckâ.
Buck answers by leaning in and capturing Eddieâs lips in a kiss. Soft and shaking and real. Itâs so full of love and devotion, it nearly brings Eddie to his knees - but there are arms around him, holding him up, keeping him safe. Like they always have.
Buck breaks the kiss first, pressing their forehead together, their breaths mingling in the quiet.
âIâm gonna love you so loudly, youâll get sick of me.â
He says it like a joke, but Eddie hears the tremor under it. The old fear. The âwhat if Iâm too much?â that Buck has carried since childhood.
So Eddie kisses him again, slow and sure, and when he pulls back, he lets the promise fall against Buckâs lips like a prayer.
