Megatudo 2096 - Console Fighting Games of 1996

Megatudo 2096 and the Megatudo Grand Prix, a mech fighting tournament with 12 pilots, and their mechs facing off against each other in their quest to be champions using a combination of close quarters combat and ranged attacks.

Developed by General Support and published by Banpresto, Megatudo 2096 was a PlayStation exclusive when it released in 1996 in Japan.

Releasing exclusively on the PlayStation, Lightning Legend Daigo no Daibōken is a Japanese only release 3D fighting game developed by Konami. the game features a two player versus mode, the main mode is the story mode with character interactions and dialogue leading up to each fight.

Kizuna Encounter Super Tag Battle is a 2d fighting game is the sequel to SNK's 1995 release Savage Reign, unlike its predecessor Kizuna Encounter Super Tag Battle ditches the secondary horizontal plain and reverts to a more traditional single fighting plain.

Killing Zone - Console Fighting Games of 1996

Killing Zone is a poorly received 3d monster fighting game featuring classic monsters such as a Minotaur, Frankenstein, a Werewolf and a Mummy. Killing Zone was released in the US, Japan and across Europe in 1996.

Killing Zone has received no future releases since its 1996 debut, the IP did receive some activity in 2016 when the rights were acquired by Canadian company Liquid Media Group, as well as other IPs from the defunct Acclaim Entertainment.

Jikkyō Power Pro Wrestling '96 Max Voltage - Console Fighting Games of 1996

Jikkyō Power Pro Wrestling '96 Max Voltage was developed by Konami and released exclusively in Japan on the SNES, the game features a career mode as well as vs matches, tournaments and a league mode. Wrestlers have unique stats and move sets including submissions and rope moves, including in and out of the ring moves. The game also features several different match formats including singles, tag, submission and death match.

Guardian Heroes - Console Fighting Games of 1996

Guardian Heroes while not fully a fighting game, with the majority of your time spent in a side scrolling RPG beat em up, it does however have a 1v1 fighting mode.

Guardian Heroes was released exclusively on the Sega Saturn in Japan, US, Canada and UK in 1996, ports of the game would be re-released in 2011 and 2016 on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One respectively.

Genei Tōgi Shadow Struggle is a 3D fighting games developed by Racdym and published by Banpresto for the PlayStation in Japan. Genei Tōgi Shadow Struggle features the standard arcade and versus mode as well as a mode called arena, credits acquired in this mode allows you to buy new moves as well as customise your character, these customised characters can be used in two player fights.

Galaxy Fight Universal Warriors - Console Fighting Games of 1996

Galaxy Fight Universal Warriors is a sci-fi fighting game released on the Neo Geo, Neo Geo CD and Sega Saturn in 1995, the latter in Japan. The Saturn version of the game would also release in the US in 1996 with a port of the game arriving on the PlayStation in Japan in 1996 as well. The game was ported to multiple platforms since 2010 with the game releasing on Wii, PS3, PSP, Vita, Xbox One, PS4 and Switch.
