the ascendency is the arathim’s hivemind : a psychic link that allows them to share their thoughts and emotions with one another, no matter where they are on the surface of thra. through the threaders, the ascendency could also impose its control on non-arathim races. threaders forge a parasitic connection with their hosts, attaching themselves to their victims’ head, where proximity to the brain increases the strength of their psychic hold. once a connection is complete, the victim's mind comes under the control of the arathim ascendency and they lose all sense of self. if a threader does not disengage with its host in less than a day, the connection is permanent - removal will kill both the host and the threader.
