Not a clarification request but a request for resources, feel free to ignore this if it's not in your wheelhouse.
I'm struggling to find anything with a comprehensive list of the DDC, what do you use for this blog? Wikipedia & lots of other sites have everything before the decimal point, but everything beyond the decimal point is extremely difficult to find much on. Like i understand how it works, i'm just not sure ~where~ to find all the classifications for these. Hopefully that makes sense, and thank you :)
I use two websites to look up classifications, depending on the niche-ness of the topic. I always start with the Library Thing: Melvil Decimal System.
This is the perfect resource if you already know generally where to look, but sometimes I have no clue where a specific topic might be shelved, so I then go to my local library's website. I look up a book related to that topic, and it tells me exactly where to find it, so I plug that number into the MDS website to confirm it.
I happen to know that mammals are under the 599 category, so if I needed to look up, say, armadillos, I could brute force it via MDS by just looking at each sub-category until I find the right one.
They're not marsupials (599.2) or bats (599.4) so they have to be under rodentia/insectivora (599.3). From there, I know they're not lagamorphs (599.32) or rats/mice (599.35), so they're either xenartha (599.31) or insectivora (599.33). And here they are, 599.312, next to sloths and anteaters.
But I have no clue where I would even start looking for, say, bookbinding. My gut tells me it's somewhere in 6xx (technology) or 7xx (arts and recreation). My library district says 686.3, and what do you know, it's right there.
Very fun to explore the categories and sub-categories!
