y'know the whole "Sol Regem killed Aithne Solaire" thing is one of those story beats where I'm like this is interesting and it is in line with the themes of the show, but pre-S7 and with "Callum might almost kill Rayla under possession" thread in the air, I was like "do we really want three couples with blatant intimate partner violence of men towards women that's portrayed somewhat ambiguously, morally?" (granted, Rayllum's would be under very different context, but still). Now with season seven, though, and the flipside of no possession plotline (yet) and Terry leaving Claudia because of emotional intimate partner abuse, I think I've shifted Sol Regem and Aithne Solaire into another narrative category, at least in my brain.
Like yes, it is a male partner murdering (accidentally) his female partner, but the way (particularly male) family members hurt others (Viren and Lissa; Viren and Runaan with Claudia and Rayla respectively) in their families (particularly the women) are non-exclusive (Claudia murders her half-brother; Rayla's preparation and willingness to murder Callum, etc), even if it's not divided evenly across the gendered spectrum. (Points to this post)
But it is like. One of TDP's things is "if you act only based on emotion (anger), you will lose yourself and unintentionally hurt others". We see this with Viren blaming Soren, characters like Callum and Rayla being collateral damage to the anger of Zubeia and Ezran, and especially the Ezran-Sol Regem parallels and "he's not himself right now" + "let's not rush in until we know more" thing gong on throughout all of S7.
If you tunnel vision, if you follow only your worst impulses, if you let your anger and rage and hatred guide you, you will destroy the things and people you love the most. On that level, of course intimate partner violence is going to be a theme in the show (even if it's arguably one of its heaviest), and it could even out further.
Idk if I'm actually expressing any of this right but as always it's like, by virtue of having a predominantly male cast that colours certain plot beats differently that maybe weren't examined as much through a gendered lens bc predominantly male writers room BUT the themes are also themeing (as always) with nuance and i can write the more fucked up women myself and enjoy what we do get, i suppose

"avert your gaze from xadia. the moral world offers you only more pain" / "but this won't give you answers. only anger. only more pain." / "so if you want to punish me, i can't stop you. but i don't think this will give you peace. only more pain"

creating this ship / shipping these two for like 2+ years ahead of season 6 coming out meant that 6x08 was the wildest fucking experience, like we went from these two maybe interacting twice (and arguably only once in a meaningful way as part of a group set), so basically starting at like a 1 on a scale of "they know each other in canon and are on Ezran's council but that's literally it" to 6x08 confirming they Are Friends and Spend Time Together!! He went to her meeting and stayed the whole time, even when he realized he'd misheard; Opeli is glad when she thinks he enjoyed it but she's still smiley and fond of him when she finds out he didn't! They're like Actually Friends and it's soo sweet. I love them forever and ever
Season 6 hair made Eddie look so young.
