The Ancient Solfeggio Scale

In the 11th century, a Benedictine monk named Guido d’Arezzo introduced this musical scale

Monks used the original 6 solfeggio notes in their Gregorian chants consisting of:

The 16th century scale was lost, disappearing amount the political and religious turmoil of the Middle Ages.

The 6 tone solfeggio scale known as “Just Intonation” was replaced by the “weave tone Equal Temperament”

The 12 tone scale is said to suppress our emotions, stifle intuition, and limit our consciousness. It is also out of sync with the natural world and can influence the manifestation of physical symptoms like fatigue, pain, stress, and even disease.

The solfeggio scale is consistent with our patterns of the universe and has healing abilities.

온 세계가 시끄럽다.

사료로만 접했던 전쟁이라는 일들이

어딘가에서 일어나고 있다.

인류의 평화라던가 그런 대단한 목적을 바랐던 적은 없는데

그 움직임이 얼마나 많은 생명을 앗아가고 있는지, 감히 생각해보게 된다.

나는 단지 운이 좋았던 것 뿐이라고.

기도하는 법을 모르지만 바라게 되었다.

어떠한 생명도 그 경중을 따지지 않고 충분히 살아내기를 바라게 되었다.

*전쟁

좋은 본보기를 만나기가 정말 어렵다. 첫인상은 역시 믿을 게 못 된다. 옆에서 보고 있으니 예민할 때가 많고, 때론 (정말 그러면 안 될 것 같은데) 감정 제어가 안 되는 것 같아 보였다. 조금은 더 현명한 모습이었으면 좋겠는데. 더 믿을 수 있는 모습이었으면 좋겠는데. 겉과 속이 다르고, 앞과 뒤가 달랐다. 웃는 얼굴 속은 천년 묵은 능구렁이 같아 보였고, 가까운 사람에겐 굳이 보여주지 않아도 될 얄팍한 수를 내비쳤고, 입은 한없이 가벼워 보였고, 기분이 언짢으면 옆에 누가 듣고 있는지 신경도 안 쓰고 일단 욕설을 내뱉는다. 말로는 평온함을 추구하지만 실제로 그녀의 삶은 (무엇이 원인이 되었든) 하루하루가 전쟁 같다. 덕분에 내 꿈들 중 하나가 점점 사라지고 있다.

*전쟁

전쟁을 고작 주가 변동이나 주유소 기름값으로만 체감할 수 있다는 현실에 감사한 마음을 품게 되는 요즘이다. 전쟁을 겪어본 적도 없는 내가 이런 마음을 품게 되는 게 아마 인문학의 힘 때문만은 아닐 것이다. 세상이 돌아가는 모습을 보니 언젠가 허무하게 하늘에서 떨어지는 포탄에 맞아 죽는 일이 마냥 현실성 없는 이야기도 아닌 것 같이 느껴진 탓이다. 살아갈수록 어째 세상이 점점 더 낯설고 무섭게만 느껴진다.

가끔 tv 속 뉴스를 보며 전쟁 속 나를 생각한다.

폭탄이 내 눈 앞에서 떨어진다거나 군인들이 우리 지역까지 쳐들어와 잡혀가거나. 뭐 이런 상황들.

중학생 때는 전쟁 공포증(?) 마냥 지나가는 비행기 소음에도 폭탄이 떨어지는구나 자주 놀랐다. 어떤 일까지 있었냐 하면 중학교에서 공부를 하던 중 엄청난 굉음이 몰려와 정말 폭탄이구나 하고 몸이 굳고 손이 달달 떨리기까지 했다.

이렇게 갑자기 죽을 생각은 없었는데.

라는 생각을 떨칠 수 없었다.

가끔은 이런 생각도 한다. 전쟁 중 내가 다른 나라에 복종하지 않을까 하는. 내 나쁜 본성이 어떻게든 살려고 나라를 팔아서라도 나를 살리려 하지는 않을까 한다.

이렇게나 죽는 게 두려운 상황은 전쟁, 재난, 자연재해 이럴 때일거다. 죽겠다 혹은 죽고싶다는 말은 참 쉽게 하면서 이런 상황에서는 죽음이 두려워하는 한낱 나약한 인간임을 새삼 느낀다.

지금에 감사하며 살아야지.
