Provocation was a part of Edward’s character. It always had been. Making people angry, making himself feel self righteous — it came as easily as breathing to the narcissistic man.
Typically, he found joy in their pitiful reactions — so why it was affecting him now? He did not know. He attempted to hide way he flinched when the doctor yelled at him; gesturing his hands in a way that made Edward think he was going to strike.
But still, he tried to play it off as if nothing had occurred. Taunting and riddling as normal. However, his relief when they left was palpable.
