I was reading The Art of Crayon by Lorraine Bell at the same time as Drawing Lab for Mixed-Media Artists by Carla Sonheim and this happened somewhere along the way. Twistable crayolas are great for baring down hard on the paper, keeping your hands clean, and keeping the sticks intact over a long period of time. I was also trying out contrast and blending.

Just a fun cat doodle on top of an experiment. Watered down gouche over oil pastels is fun because the pigment will settle between the pastel marks. The pens are the same kind I’ve been using to draw most of my life so it was nice to use them again after playing with different drawing utensils. 

I wanted to see how opaque I could make the watercolor in order to make it look metallic. The shape of the cat... yeah it’s a noodle. Inspired by a pattern I saw that looked like a cat.
