Matchy matchy as always 🥹😍 how beautiful they are!!!
Team USA at the #4ContsFigure2023 closing banquet 🇨🇳
Who was the first female 4CC champion?
Your full thoughts on the dance event?
Let's do this by order of placement in the FD
Nauryzova/Datiev - very slow, very messy
Nette/Westwood - felt like they were underscored, their lifts were very nice and they had nice flow and decent speed. Definitely showing promise
Lafond-Fournier/Kam - nice music that @macaroni-rascal evidently identified as music Tessa used which was hella impressive. They lost some steam in the second half but overall a solid performance
KanaDai and KoKo - will get their own post since this is wild
Harris/Chan - the best they skated this FD all season and showing some really nice qualities, they have a great flow and very nice edge work (that gets sloppy at times). The twizzles are for sure her nemesis. That being said I'm not a fan of the revamped second half of the FD, I get why they changed it but I preferred the old music.
Lauriault/LeGac - it's no secret I like this FD but this wasn't a strong outing for them, they lacked speed and attack and felt slow and tentative even during elements they usually shine in. However, this was still a breakthrough season for them as they consistently beat Soucisse/Firus (who got passed by them, L/L, and even S/W at nationals).
CPom - for me WUZROBBED, their protocols annoy me a lot because the only flaw you see is judges being bitchy towards them. Their choreo spin move is lovely yet gets little love, their character steps are fire and get little love. I hope they and Scott/Madi/Adria/MF will figure out how to max their potential on choreo elements, the rest will come naturally I hope.
Green/Parsons - did well but looked off on lifts and choreo elements, Love the entrance into the spin, their choreo steps were generic but scored too well. I do like them a lot, but MIDA better figure our an identity for them because another season of meh programs will for sure hurt them.
Lajoie/Lagha - their consistency is so impressive, they had one error this entire season and it was a small one during the choreo steps in the RD at skate Canada. I love their RD slightly more than the FD but them being able to do both styles so well is a testament to their abilities. As Ben Agosto wrote, "future world champs".
Candanes - had the best competition of their life and with Laurance having a MCL tear. I feel like if they skate like this at Worlds they have an outside shot at Bronze, either way I just love seeing them deliver like this.
Chock/Bates - my unpopular opinion is that their FD totally grew on me and I enjoy it quite a lot. They are very smart and strategic about their elements, they know how to max their choreo elements GOEs and that's what's been giving them a push the entire last quad. I think their packaging is smart, their elements and their placement is smart (OBSESSED with the choreo spin), and overall as I said before I would rather see them take Worls gold than G/P at this point...
Lastly, shout out to the ice dancers who ovedrall managed the altitude very very well in the FD.
What did you all think about 4CC dance?
CONGRATS YUZU ON FINALLY GETTING YOUR 4CC GOLD!
It’s been 10 seasons. He got his first 4CC silver in his first Senior season as a 16 year-old. Four Continents Championships... I guess you could say: 4th time’s the charm. This was a really good event overall, so I’m happy with it. By the way, the term for a skater winning every title in Seniors over the course of their career is called a “Career Grand Slam” (GPF, Euros/4CC, Worlds, Olympics). The term for winning every title in Juniors and Seniors is “Career Super Slam” (or Career Super Grand Slam). Yuzu has become the first Men’s skater to achieve this.
