We've mostly harvested our corn from our #slashmulch #3sisters garden this season, and again, it has exceeded my expectations. This year, our corn harvest will likely be slightly reduced from last year, mostly because of deer and raccoons. But it seems the energy equation somehow balance out, as we appear likely to harvest significantly more squash, as well as some potatoes, a huge number of tomatoes, amaranth, arugula, mustards broccoli, and a bunch of "wild" herbs and vegetables. It's still pretty amazing that these crops will grow so successfully without tilling or removing vegetation. #permaculture https://www.instagram.com/p/Bn1XEGoga6h/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=swv2sxcyed5m

Three Sisters rocks, Taranaki, New Zealand From Waiiti, we drove further up to Tongaporutu. This was a very interesting beach, with many “things to see”. But you had to get there at lowtide. From the parking lot, we walked through a series of rocks. There were some oystercatchers on the black sand, blending in nicely with the colour. Some cormorants were drying on the rocks. We walked on the wide expanse of the black soft sand. Here, there were a few others as well, all walking in a rush while the tide was low. First we came to a hole in the rock, placed right at the edge of the receding water. Letting us walk through our first hole in the rock in the sea. From here, we could see the “3 sisters”. This is a series of rocks, which over years of erosion were separated from the main rock and now stood independently, close to each other. 3 such rocks stood there for many years, but recently the top half of one of them had fallen off, making it only 2.5 sisters! When we visited, only 2 columns were distinctly visible. We strongly felt the 3rd sister should be given a respectable farewell and this structure should now be called “2 sisters”! #RTWSC #NZSC #Tongaporutu #Park #sky #colours #blacksand #blacksandbeach #lowtide #Taranaki #3sisters #threesisters #NewZealand #purenz #southisland #wanderlust #landscape #travelblog #travelblogger #nzmustdo #newzealandfinds #destinationnz #newzealandguide #purenewzealand #ExtraordinaryExplorer #destinationnz #newzealandguide #kiwi #newzealandvacations #newzealandfinds #newzealandpics #discover_newzealand (at Tongaporutu)
