After 2+ days of being locked up in the hotel room down with bronchitis, finally, energy and appetite enough to dine at some of vegas’ finest restaurants. The warm bowl of momofuku ramen tasted like home where from my window in Williamsburg I can see the milk bar. The not so petit fours of cucina were as sweet as the care of those who looked out for me both here and online while I was knocked out and delirious with the holiday illness. When in sin city, one can indulge in the many deadly sins. On this Saturday, gluttony it is. Buffet brunch straight to the prime rib and unlimited mimosas. At some point though, all the consumption catches up. And so for dinner, a simpler meal off the strip. Off the beaten path, away from all the Times Squareish lights and miles of buffetmageddon. Took longer than usual but quite cool to finally discover the locals’ Vegas. Away from all the glitzy heat lamps, in Chinatown, where the locals would dine out. As perhaps local amsterdammers would go to de pijp or people in Manila would eat in a carinderia. Not as sinful as unliservings of beef and champagne but somehow much more satisfying. Thursday night trek to the Bellagio for Cirque du Soleil’s “O”. Great show and awe-inspiring modern display of acrobatics as Cirque does. Water, fire, aerial trapeze and stunts, synchronized swimming, rings and a whole lot more. Such a visual treat.
