"There's an app for that" Used to be a phrase associated with abundance and possibility. The magic of discovery and new technology Meant every app was filled with potential and novelty.
But now, I look at every pointless little thing on my phone, Every service and loyalty program and remote control, And wonder what is left. Is there truly an app for everything? There's even apps to think for us, To replace actual intelligence with statistical models Masquerading as something that can speak. But just because there's an app Doesn't mean that app is good or useful. The sheen is wearing off, And we're noticing just how cheap it feels under our fingertips.
I look outside at the swaying trees, At the leaves slowly drifting to the ground, As autumn sets in and branches reckon with their balding. They are warm in a way the temperature is not, That the world is not, A vibrant red and gold carpet rolled out just for you. A leaf lands near me. I put down my phone. I touch something real.
